Can I bring a plus one?
Plus ones are by invite only.
Can I bring my kids?
If your children are listed on the invitation, they are welcome! Please keep in mind that after 8pm, there will be loud, explicit music playing.
Please note that children must be under close supervision during the ceremony and reception. There will be many adults making use of the bar, a marshy pond area just a few feet from the reception space, and large heavy decor that could be pulled over. If you know your children will get antsy during the ceremony, please choose a seat that is easily accessible if you need to step away. 💕
Is there a dress code?
Dress code is formal/black tie optional. Guests with a more feminine style are asked to wear floor length formal gowns with the option to wear below the knee length gowns as well.
Guests with a more masculine style are asked to wear a suit or a tuxedo with the option to wear dressy separates. Children are asked to wear formal dresses and suits. Wedding party will be wearing dark green.
Can I wear white?
No, we ask that you refrain from wearing colors traditionally reserved for the bride. 💕
As a general guideline, if the dress in question is more than 10% white, it does not fall within the dress code.
What should I not wear?
As our wedding follows a dress code, we ask that you please do not wear anything casual at all. Please refrain from wearing dresses that do not cover your knees. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns with the dress code, please do not hesitate to contact the bride.
What is the venue like?
The venue we have chosen is very quiet and beautiful, up in the Adirondack mountains in Olmstedville. The front half of the property is a working farm with plants, fruits and veggies, and a house. To get to the back half, you’ll need to go down past the farm, past the house, around some pumpkin patches and down the one-way road. The road is not paved and does not have gravel. Please go slowly as there are ruts in the dirt. Follow the fairy lights down to the barn. Once you reach the venue, there is a brick road that turns into gravel parking lots. There will be people standing outside to direct you to where you should park. The ceremony will be outside on the grass and the reception will be inside the wedding barn.
What’s on the menu?
Our wedding is going to be unique! We will be hosting a potluck-style dinner. We are asking 5-7 families to bring a dish to share. We will be providing smoked meats for a taco bar (along with all the fixin’s), drinks, and cupcakes for dessert! Please contact the bride with any food allergies.
How does the potluck work?
There will be a section of our wedding website that links to a google sign up sheet for the potluck. We only need a total of 5-7 dishes to have enough for everyone, so don’t feel obligated to bring something if you can’t think of anything or if you aren’t good at cooking! With the help of John and Kris Flynn, we are providing enough tacos for 80% of the potluck. We ask you please bring your dish in what is called a “half size pan”. Please make sure the depth of the pan is 2.56 inches to allow for heating/cooling. Each pan should be 10.5” by 8.13”. We will be providing sterno fuels to keep hot foods hot. Please make sure to label all dishes for allergies and please do not bring anything with peanuts! Please make sure the leftovers from your dish are brought home with you. 💕
When is the deadline to let you know what dish I’m bringing?
Please make sure you use the google docs link to let me know what dish you or your family is bringing no later than August 21st. Thank you!
Will there be alcohol?
Yes, there will be a cash bar at the wedding. Please make sure to bring your ID and tip your bartender. You can either pay for your drinks with cash or there is the option to use your card.
Will there be a registry for gifts?
While your presence is presents enough, if you wish to buy us a gift, we have set up a honeymoon fund and registry. You can buy us an experience for our honeymoon or donate some cash to help with the cost! For those who want to give a physical item, we have set up a “house things” registry for things that will be tucked away until we buy a house! Whatever you decide is more than appreciated! 💕 we love you very much
What time should I arrive?
Please arrive a minimum of 30 minutes before the ceremony to have enough time to park and find your seat. The ceremony will begin at 3pm sharp. If you are one of the families who will be bringing a dish, please stop by the barn to drop it off in its proper location before finding your seat. Thanks!
Can I take pictures during the ceremony?
We ask that all phones be shut off for the entirety of the ceremony. There will be a period of time during the ceremony where photos and videos will be allowed to be taken. Please feel free to take pictures before/after the ceremony and whenever you wish during the reception.
Can I post pictures before the bride and groom?
Feel free to post pictures of our wedding to social media, but please be sure to tag us in your post so we can see them as well! You can also use the hashtag #McFarlandVeldmanWedding2024
What happens at 8pm?
At 8pm, our DJ will announce that explicit and loud music will begin to play, kicking off the official “after party” for those who like to get a little crazy 😜 we ask that all our guests stay until then so we get a chance to say goodbye and thank each and every guest personally. Those who enjoy loud and explicit music are free to stay and party the night away until the reception officially ends at 9pm. 🎉
Do I HAVE to rsvp?
Yes. An rsvp is absolutely REQUIRED for everyone. It is essential in planning for the ceremony and reception. If we do not get an RSVP back by the date we have provided, we will unfortunately have to mark you down as not coming.
What if I forget to RSVP?
We will send out reminders to RSVP after we send out invitations! However, once the deadline passes, we will be unable to provide any accommodations moving forward. We would love to celebrate with you another day if you are unable to attend our wedding.
When is the deadline to rsvp?
Rsvp deadline is July 21st 2024.
How do I donate to the honeymoon fund?
If you wish to bless us with a donation, you can either give us cash, a check written out to the bride OR groom, or a PayPal! There is also an option to donate directly through our wedding website under “registry”! Please note, the bride will not be changing her last name until after the wedding so please do not make any checks out with her new last name. We are so grateful for the blessing you want to give us! 💕 all donations will go to dinners, activities, and experiences on our honeymoon at Walt Disney World Florida!
The bride and groom are very appreciative of you reading through all the Q & A! It helps them immensely to know all of their guests know what to expect and are fully prepared for the wedding day :) they would like to extend their thanks to each and every guest and look forward to seeing and celebrating with you all. They hope you have a fabulous time!
