For those of you interested in exploring the wonderful city of Washington, DC, there is certainly no shortage of things to do. Go for a stroll on the National Mall, stop in to one of the many free museums, or relax in the shade at any of the public parks; monuments, murals and history are all around!
But if you are looking for a little more of a 'local' experience, we have curated a list of some of our favorite places to visit and fun things to do.
Located just up the street from our wedding reception venue (Tudor Place) the Dumbarton Oaks Gardens is where our engagement took place. Neither of us had been prior to May 27th, 2023, but we have frequented the grounds several times since, whether it is for a quiet read on a bench or a literal "walk down memory lane."
Tickets can be purchased in advance online or at the gate the day of, though we encourage getting them early as they do only have a limited amount and can sell out.
Some of DC's best antiques, at extremely affordable prices, with the most gracious, and knowledgeable owner, John. From framed artwork to fun trinkets, you will likely find something that catches your eye, and even if you don't wish to purchase anything, he is always excited to answer any questions or clear up any curiosity you have about a piece - it's essentially an interactive museum!
Note: there are different locations for Saturday & Sunday.
Sat: 19th and S St NW
Sun: 19th and Q St NW
Washington DC, 20009
The Saturday set up takes place on an actual sidewalk just outside of his house, so the selection is limited but the experience is still worth it! Hours vary but usually begin at 10 am until 3 pm.
The Sunday tent is an extension of the much more known Farmer's Market at Dupont Circle (also worth checking out on Sunday if you are around!). He has multiple tables set up, along with some other independent vendors that we encourage you check out as well - this will be right around the corner from our Farewell Breakfast. Hours are 9 am to 2 pm.
Neighboring Courtney's alma mater, this epicenter for all things culinary and creative is its own little intersection of eateries, fashion boutiques, and home goods retail. While it can become a little congested, you will not find yourself short of options on where to browse. Some highlights for us are the ham & comte croissants from Pluma Bakery, jewelry from SHELTER (the same store Courtney's engagement ring and our wedding bands are from!), and the eclectic mix of goods from independent, and often local, makers at Salt & Sundry, a home + lifestyle boutique.
Hours of operation vary for each location within Union Market District but most are open by 11 am and close by 6 pm. The nearest metro stop is located across the street at NoMa - Gallaudet U.
From our welcome dinner, to the reception, and finishing with the farewell breakfast, we hope you will be well fed this weekend! However, if you are like us and find yourself craving a little treat every once and a while, we put together a quick collection of some of the best bites DC has to offer (in our humble opinion).
2122 P St NW
Washington DC 20037
As close to an authentic New York bagel experience you'll find here in DC, this cash only and curt service to-go eatery is affordable and efficient and "just like home," according to Chris
430 K St NW
Washington DC 20001
We frequent here for breakfast and baked goods far too often but the lunch is not to be missed either, with counter service ordering and find-your-own seating you'll fit right in with the hip DC crowd who are either out for a walk with their dog or answering emails while they "work from home."
43 N St NW
Washington DC 20001
Likely the best breakfast taco you will ever have (brisket is currently the favorite); plenty of seating but to-go works just as well and you can always come back for Tex-Mex dinner and enjoy their sizzling fajitas plates
1524 Wisconsin Ave NW
Washington DC 20007

(second location just opened)
Union Market
417 Morse St NE
Washington DC 20001
Delightful pastry and fun coffee riffs are appetizing but the real appeal is in the lunch menu with their chicken and lamb shawarma; incredibly popular so admittedly chaotic but worth every elbow it takes to find a seat
1522 Wisconsin Ave NW
Washington DC 20007
A door down from YELLOW, and much more of a sit-down dining experience, reservations are a must; a french-inspired menu with bistro bites open for brunch/lunch and dinner
1521 17th St NW
Washington DC 20036
The only spot on our list that is exclusively dinner only, this Sichuan-style restaurant is a spice up from the rest; full of flavorful dishes and a dimly lit dining room, you'll see why this is a constant definite in our "where should eat this time" discussions and while reservations are highly recommended, walk-in's are allowed
1509 17th St NW
Washington DC 20036
Handmade ice cream scoops served out of a cart on the side walk has never tasted this incredible; expect lines but also hospitable service from the very sincere scooper who will gladly let you sample every flavor on the menu, which will almost certainly all be unfamiliar; you can also purchase to-go pints which is probably a good idea
