Since D'Arcy is a Pittsburgh native, we couldn’t say “I do” without bringing a little piece of the Steel City to our wedding. For those unfamiliar with this tradition, the Pittsburgh Cookie Table is a labor of love where family and friends contribute homemade treats to create a massive, beautiful dessert display.

The Pittsburgh Cookie Table is widely believed to have emerged during the Great Depression, when families in Western Pennsylvania—especially those from Italian, Polish, and Greek immigrant communities—needed a creative way to celebrate weddings without the cost of an elaborate cake. Instead of relying on a single expensive dessert, relatives and neighbors each baked their specialty treats, coming together to create an abundant, homemade spread for the couple.

By the 1950s and 1960s, the cookie table had become a beloved fixture at Pittsburgh-area weddings. What began as a practical solution grew into a cherished cultural tradition, symbolizing generosity, community, and the sweetness of starting a new life together. Today, the cookie table remains one of the region’s most distinctive and heartfelt wedding customs.

If you’d like to share a piece of your home with us, we invite you to bring one dozen of your favorite homemade sweets! Whether it’s a family recipe for chocolate chip cookies, your famous lemon bars, or fudgy brownies—if it’s handheld and delicious, it belongs on the table!

A Little Note: Please don’t feel obligated! This is completely optional. We just wanted to offer a way for our loved ones to share their favorite flavors with us if they feel inspired.

We will be using the cookie table as our dessert during the cocktail hour & reception. You’ll also be able to take a few treats to go, so feel free to pack up some of your favorites to enjoy on the ride home or as a midnight snack!
