San Sebastián is well connected and easy to reach, with a few airport options nearby:
When travelling to San Sebastian from abroad, the most common option is to fly into Bilbao, which is about 1 hour 15 minutes from San Sebastián.
It has plenty of international flights and is well connected to major European cities. From the airport, you can take a direct bus (linked here) (around €17, runs hourly), hire a car, or book a private transfer.
Travelling from New York:
There are flights from Newark to Bilbao with one layover.
Travelling from London:
There are flights from Heathrow, Gatwick, and London City.
Located in France, Biarritz is about 45 minutes from San Sebastián. It’s a smaller airport but has good connections, especially from within Europe. From here, you can take a bus or taxi across the border.
Travelling from New York:
We would recommend looking for flights into Bilbao, unless you plan on being in Europe beforehand.
Travelling from London:
easyJet has a few direct flights from Gatwick. All other airlines will require you to transfer.
The closest airport, just 20 minutes from the city, with a few domestic flights and British Airways recently introduced a direct route from London. However, flights are limited, and in our experience, they can sometimes be cancelled last minute.
