Our Story

The Beginning

In August of 2019, DH & Hazel Louise's mutual friend Arabella invited DH to the Minto Island Growers farmer talent show because she had an inclination that DH and Hazel Louise might fall in love if they met. When they got there, Arabella pointed Hazel Louise out to DH. He was skeptical, but as soon as Hazel Louise got up on the stage and started playing her banjo, DH was done for. Hazel Louise on the other hand had no idea DH was there just to meet her. But she did notice DH immediately upon him walking in and spent much of the night aware of him and wanting to say hi. DH also spent the whole evening trying to work up the nerve to say hi, but was feeling very bashful. So, the night passed without many words but some pointed eye contact from across the dance floor.

The next week, DH gave Arabella his number to pass along to Hazel Louise at work. Little did DH know, Hazel Louise had written her own number down on a piece of paper to give to Arabella to pass along to DH that very same day!

DH & Hazel Louise started dating September 13th, 2019.

The Middle

Since that time, DH & Hazel Louise have weathered multiple moves, career changes, spiritual and physical transitions, one global pandemic, the crumbling of the American empire, and the loss of their dear cat Sheba. Their relationship has been a safe haven through a stunningly difficult time to be alive and has provided both of them a stable base from which to grow and blossom both individually and as a couple.

About a year in, DH and Hazel Louise realized that they might be forever for one another, however both felt uncomfortable with the way that a monogamous relationship would cut them off from other future romances and relationships. Fortunately, DH and Hazel Louise were on the same page about this and so they began redefining their relationship under the model of polyamory. While this relationship style has its own set of challenges, it has blossomed into a beautiful family and network of love and care and has made room for Hazel Louise & DH to relate to one another more fully.

The Proposal

In 2022, while attending an event at Minto Island Growers, Hazel Louise & DH were picking blueberries and joking about getting married one day. It was at that moment that Hazel Louise had the idea that they could probably get married on this very farm. DH pulled out his calendar and checked to see when their anniversary would fall on a weekend (DH commonly thinks that their anniversary is the 14th and not the 13th lmao) and low and behold, it was September of 2024. Suddenly their jokes about getting married far far in the future felt less abstract and less far far away. They both liked the date and the venue, then realized the next step (usually the first step) would be to get engaged.

On Christmas day of that same year, DH asked Hazel Louise to marry him and without hesitation, she said yes.

Today

They are so excited to bring everyone to the very place where their love story began in order to bear witness to the depth and steadfastness of their love.
