Closest Town - Miltown Malbay
The historic market town of Miltown Malbay, home to a famous music festival named after local Uilleann piper Willie Clancy is approx 3km from Spanish Point.
There is a SuperValu for groceries and any items you may need.
Currency
In the Republic of Ireland, the currency used is the euro (€) and in Northern Ireland the currency used is the pound sterling (£).
Driving in Ireland
Here's what you need to know about driving laws, tolls, parking and more: https://www.ireland.com/en-us/plan-your-trip/travel/driving-in-ireland/
The road to Spanish Point should not be driven at night, only during the day. It is considered risky.
Electric Current
We recommend bringing both a converter and an adapter for your trip. What’s the difference? A converter adjusts the voltage from an outlet (230V in Ireland) to match your device's requirements, while an adapter allows your plug to fit the differently shaped outlets. If your device is dual-voltage, it only needs an adapter. Most modern electronics, like laptops and phone chargers, are dual-voltage, but single-voltage items, such as curling irons, will require a converter. For convenience, consider purchasing dual-voltage versions of items like curling irons, heating pads, or steamers.
Jet Lag
Ireland is 6 hours ahead of Minnesota, so we recommend arriving a day or two early to adjust. Try to stay awake as late as possible upon arrival to help with jet lag. Flights usually land in the morning, and you’ll likely be tired, so driving—especially long distances—on the first day can be challenging.
Livestream
For those not able to make it over to Ireland, we will have a livestream of the ceremony available
Passport
American travelers must ensure their passport is valid for at least six months beyond their planned travel dates to Ireland
Taxi & Uber
We recommend downloading FreeNow which is Irelands taxi app and is available in most cities. Uber is available in the larger cities.
Value Added Tax (VAT) & Tax Refunds
Visitors from the US can claim VAT refunds on eligible purchases in Ireland by shopping at stores displaying the "Tax-Free Shopping" sign. Use a tax refund document or the Horizon Tax-Free card to log purchases, then claim your refund at customs on departure or at FEXCO desks in Dublin or Shannon airports. Save your receipts!
