Delayna & Phillip

Saturday, August 30, 2025 • Lockhart, TX

It all began at the University of Texas at Austin, in the Robert A. Welch Chemistry Hall. Delayna was trying to avoid socializing, while Phillip was determined to strike up a conversation. Phillip initiated the chat, but it wasn’t until he casually mentioned tennis that Delayna showed enough interest to exchange numbers. They both thought the other was adorable, but Delayna was intent on sticking to her plans and avoiding distractions. Spoiler alert: her plans didn’t stand a chance.

Their first “date” was unexpected. What began as a hike at Barton Springs turned into an accidental date as they spent hours swimming, talking, and laughing. The funny part? Phillip didn’t actually enjoy hiking—he was simply being polite. From that day on, they couldn’t stop talking and laughing together. The outing ended with smoothies, a movie at Alamo Drafthouse, and a promise to meet again. Who could resist such great conversation (and the prospect of more adventures, hiking or not)?

Fast forward over eight years, and they’ve experienced so much together—college, jobs, pets, homes, and growing into adulthood side by side. They began dating just eight days after meeting, and it took eight years to get engaged—a perfect full-circle moment. Along the way, they’ve learned each other’s quirks, tackled challenges together, and supported one another in ways they never could have imagined.

The proposal reflected everything they love. During a hike in Portugal, a nod to their first date, Phillip proposed three miles into a stunning, windy coastal trail. It was intimate and perfect, with just the two of them—exactly as they had envisioned.

What makes their relationship unique is their deep friendship. From the very beginning, they’ve spent nearly every moment together. They share a car, work from home, and genuinely enjoy each other’s company. Together, they’ve traveled across the country and around the world, even embarking on a backpacking trip through Europe filled with memorable mishaps—like running out of money in Paris. (Special thanks to Phillip’s brothers for saving the day with a delightful dinner!) Through it all, their friendship has been the cornerstone of their relationship.

They complement each other in every way—he cooks, she cleans. He socializes, she analyzes. He keeps her motivated, and she keeps him organized. He’s the yin to her yang, and together, they’re ready to embrace forever.
