Q + A

What is a New Orleans- style wedding and what should I expect at Southern Oaks?

Southern Oaks is a historic New Orleans mansion with sweeping oak trees, manicured grounds and Southern charm. Our ceremony will take place outdoors on the front lawn (with an indoor option if weather requires), followed by a lively reception inside the mansion. From the moment you arrive, you’ll be welcomed with Southern hospitality, endless hand-passed hors d’oeuvres, an open bar and lively music. The celebration is designed to flow seamlessly—there are no assigned seats, so feel free to move around, mingle, and enjoy.

What time should I arrive to the wedding?

Guests can arrive to Southern Oaks anytime between 5:30- 6PM. The venue gate will close at 6PM to signal the start of the ceremony.

What are your wedding colors?

Wedding colors are gold, champagne, black and white. Guests are not required to wear the wedding colors unless you are part of Derrick and Diamond's immediate family.

What is the dress code for the wedding?

The dress code for our wedding is semi-formal/cocktail attire. Think cocktail dresses or a suit and tie or a sports coat.

Where are you registered?

Derrick and Diamond's registry is available here on their website. Please note that the couple will be flying back to Houston so it is encouraged to mail gifts directly to their Houston address (listed on their registry). Cards are welcomed at the ceremony.

Am I allowed to bring a plus-one?

Unfortunately, we don’t have enough space for all of our guests to bring a guest. Plus ones are by invitation only. We will only be able to accommodate the names listed on your formal wedding invitation.

What is the deadline to RSVP?

The deadline to RSVP has passed. Derrick and Diamond have submitted their final numbers to the venue and will not be able to accommodate those who did not formally RSVP.

What type of food will be served at the wedding?

The reception venue features exclusively hand-passed cuisine in the traditional New Orleans style, similar to an all-you-can-eat cocktail party. The result is a reception that is much more festive, social, and memorable for everyone in attendance!

Are children invited to the wedding?

We love your children, but due to space restrictions, we cannot accommodate them on our wedding day.
