For those wishing to stay closest to the wedding venue, The 57th Autumn Glory Festival will be held in Oakland, Maryland on Friday, October 9-13, 2024. This festival started in the 1950s as an annual event organized by a group of turkey growers to promote turkey dinners. The Lions Club became involved in the 1960s to host a large festival to attract visitors to the area. The Autumn Glory Festival now attracts more than 60,000 people.

The Autumn Glory Festival has evolved into a full five-day festival kicking off with a turkey dinner and reception on Wednesday, October 9th. Last year’s festival included a Grand Feature Parade, Tournament of the Bands, the Official Maryland State Banjo, Mandolin & Fiddle Championships, Oakland's Autumn Glory Carnival, Heritage Fall Foliage Driving Tours, Car Show, Autumn Glory Sales, Corn Maze, Farmers’ Markets, Arts and Craft Shows, Antique Shows and more. The Autumn Glory Festival has ranked as one of the top fall festivals around the world and Oakland, MD, has been named by numerous travel and leisure companies as a top small town to see fall foliage.

After much research, our top recommendation for accommodations is The Lodge at Wisp Resort. It is one of the closest places to stay to the wedding venue, the roads are much better than the ones leading to the Blackwater Falls or Canaan Valley area (fewer sharp turns on mountainous roads and much better lighting), they do not have a minimum night stay, they offer free continental breakfasts and their rooms are reasonably priced for couples or for families. When

you call for reservations, be sure to give the Group Booking ID# 7427 in order to receive the discounted group room rate.

-Hotel rooms were last renovated in 2018. Free Continental -Breakfast each morning (7 a.m. to 10 a.m.) in the Morris Room, which is located on the first floor of the main hotel down the hallway from the front desk.

-There is a noticeable difference in the newer section of the hotel compared to the older section of the hotel. We believe you will find that it is worth the extra money to stay in the newer section of the hotel.

-The Queen Suites are in the newer part of the hotel priced at $189 per night + taxes and fees.

-The Queen Suite will sleep 4 with a queen bed in the bedroom and a queen Murphy bed in the living room.

Please note that the roads from The White Barn at Lucas Farm to the Blackwater Falls and Canaan Valley area have a lot of very sharp and winding turns and they are not lit up at night. These roads can be treacherous and we want everyone to be safe. If you are not used to these driving conditions, we urge you to stay in the Deep Creek/Oakland, MD, area.
