Where to start? How does someone adequately describe when the sparks flew with their person and the life that transpired after? No one can ever guess when or how it will happen. Sometimes, it can happen in England where Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy met. Maybe in a quaint small town like Stars Hollow. Possibly, you might meet them by the ocean like Ariel and the Prince or Sandy and Danny. In our case, on an ordinary day in June, at a poorly played softball tournament, everything changed.


We originally met at work at Saint Vincent Hospital. Sam was working as a pharmacist in the outpatient pharmacy. He had moved back to Erie from Raleigh in 2019 and started the meds to beds program for the hospital. Devin was working at her first nursing job on 2 North and met him during morning huddle, that involved discussing patient care together with social work.


Skip forward to 2021, Devin was working in the float pool but joined her old 2N coworkers for a softball tournament. This story would be really boring if Sam wasn't there, right? We played in the tournament, and thanks to Sam and a few others, we did get a run or two. With the tournament ending, sooner than expected, we all went for lunch and made it a beach day. It was such an awesome day with friends. Later that week, we started texting, meeting at the "diner" for coffee, and trying to figure out ways to see each other throughout the day.


On our first date, Sam picked up Devin, and they went to Oliver's Rooftop for dinner. Devin was just a tad nervous. *insert picture of Dev freaking out to Bailey minutes before Sam picked her up*. The dinner was amazing and then we went to Sam's to watch a movie. Specifically, a stand-up comedy starring Nate Bargaze. Our second date was at Presque Isle for a day of kayaking.


From there, it was one thing after the other, in the best way. From skydiving, to meeting each other's families, and then spontaneously booking our first cruise. In a quick six months, we finally understood what all the older couples usually say. When you know, you know.
