Gaborone (pop. 270,000) is the capital and largest city in Botswana. Some of our favorite things to do in Gaborone are visit game reserves, go hiking, and eat at restaurants.
Game Reserves
Mmokolodi Game Reserve is a nature reserve located ten minutes outside of Gaborone. Mmokolodi is home to plenty of giraffes, zebras, and antelope, as well as a small population of rhinos. At Mmokolodi, you can go on game drives, go on self-guided bike rides, or eat at the very nice Mmokolodi Bush Kitchen restaurant. Mmokolodi is quite close to Crocodile Pools, so it may be a nice place to visit the day after the reception.
Gaborone Game Reserve is a smaller game reserve located within Gaborone. In Gaborone Game Reserve, you will see zebras, antelope, ostriches, and vervet monkeys.
Crocodile Pools, where we are hosting our wedding reception, provides river safari cruises, where you can see crocodiles and fish eagles and other birds. We can arrange river cruises with Crocodile Pools closer to the day of the wedding.
Hiking
Kgale Hill is the highest hill in Botswana, and is where Dominic proposed to Lorato. This is the most popular hiking location in Botswana. Other good hiking destinations around Gaborone include Oodi, Tlokweng Hill, Otse, and Modipane. Feel free to reach out to Dominic about visiting any of these hiking locations
Restaurants
Some of our favorite restaurants in Gaborone include Mmokolodi Bush Kitchen, The Daily Grind, Sanitas, Two Six Seven, Mo’s Kitchen, Park 27, Table 52, Ashoka Palace, and Pat Thai. There are also other tasty restaurants around the various shopping malls in Gaborone.
