Our Wedding

we decided to each write our own version of our story, please enjoy :)

we met through the campus ministry cru during our freshman year, and frankly, our initial meet was not very memorable for me. i remember hearing he was from red wing, but thats about it. i did not think about him at all after that. during our sophomore year my roommate, sydney, and nathan became co-leaders and sydney quickly began to tell me that nathan and i would be a cute couple and that he was such a good guy. i shut the idea down several times because i didnt know him nor have the space to naturally get to know him. Sydney was quite relentless about the idea though, so I couldn’t help but think about it sometimes. the following spring, i found out that i would be taking over sydneys role and i would be co-leaders with nathan. well, the space to get to know him was soon there. i had a crush on him within the first 3 weeks of leading together. An inevitable some may say. with the help of some friends, i created a 5 step plan on how to ask nathan out. in late october, after skipping some points and laughing a lot i finally got the words out "i would like to get to know you as more than a friend." nathan replied with "well, lets get food next week." i was incredibly cool for like 3 minutes and the second i got outside i screamed and continued to scream into my pillow for at least an hour because i could not believe what just happened. we got some tacos in an incredibly cold restaurant and the conversation never dulled. he was cute and listened to me talk for hours, what more could I want? We went on a second date, which lead to a third, fourth, and so on. i can say for most of the relationship, i was always 5 steps ahead of nathan. he is what we may call a very predictable man and that is just what i need. he steadies me, makes me laugh so much, leads like jesus, and sometimes chooses to hang out with me instead of watching the timberwolves 😉.

Dorothy's Version

One day, I picked up this lady. I only really knew her pretty recently. I had seen her around at Cru. Knew she was in the same grade as me. Knew she had cute glasses. Didn’t know much more than that. We drove to get some tacos. Bit by bit, I built up some ideas around her. My first real conversation with her found our hometowns were only 20 minutes apart. Learned she played tennis. Knew every lyric to American Pie. Made me think: dang, she might be kinda legit. Can’t remember what I ordered. Probably something with shrimp. Pulled out my school ID card instead of my credit card. She doesn’t let me forget that one. I didn’t forget those small things, though, before we were paired together to lead Cru’s weekly meeting. I had seen her A+ leadership before, so I knew I was gonna be in good hands. But it was better than I ever could’ve thought it’d be. We covered up each other’s weaknesses. Handled every duty with ease. Kobe and Shaq. We were unstoppable. What was almost lost in the frenzy of this leadership role was how well the conversation was flowing between us. Almost too well. Texts became less about tasks to complete and more about how much I think about the Roman Empire, and LA police chases, and whatever Travis and Taylor were doing. I didn’t like that last one as much, but that was okay. The conversation was less crisp when she asked me out, but it got the job done. I wanted to get some food. With her. And so, six days later, there we were. Sitting down in a mostly empty street taco place. That wasn’t the only time we sat down to eat together. We ate some burgers the next week. Breakfast food later. Punch pizza down the road. Eventually, some food at my family’s house. Some food at her family’s house. By the time I knew it, she was making all the food. Fantastic food, might I say. Burrito bowls, soups, ravioli, high-class pasta and sausage, fried rice, everything. Delicious. But I had not yet tasted the wonders of her cooking the night of those tacos. Nonetheless, they were good tacos. Went down quickly. I was pretty hungry. We took more grandiose adventures than just eating food, though. I introduced her to the Minnesota Timberwolves. She, subsequently, introduced me to Hallmark. I think both of us still have preferences when it comes to those topics. But we learned to like them both. Because we liked each other. We went to France. We played intramural tennis. It tested our relationship. Very well could’ve ended it. But it didn’t. The spirit of competition tested us through other mediums: Sushi Go games, Wii Sports, chess, bananagrams, tennis against each other. But the house didn’t fall. We built up an incredible movie watchlist. We spent so many late nights talking in the car. We continued to ball out with weekly meeting. And I realized: she’s kinda perfect. So I proposed. She said yes. I had to hold in my shivers that night in the frigid taco place. The cold metal chair didn’t help. Neither did forgetting my coat. Which sucked, cause I could’ve talked to her for hours. Little did I know, we would talk for hours in the future. And we still have future hours to talk. That story is still being written, though.

You have been a guiding force in my life and a constant source of care and wisdom, I appreciate you more than you know.

bridesmaid: hannah lindgrenI knew we would be great friends because she laughed at everything I said and I love when people laugh at my jokes. She welcomed my many, many unannounced visits and had an endless supply of tea and hot chocolate. our friendship is effortless and I thank you for your grounding nature.

bridesmaid: annika lindgrenAnnika once helped me pull off the most epic scare Nathan stunt ever, which to that I am thankful. She laughs at my jokes after her sister started laughing, a package deal we may call it. But she also does not like to drive, so we made hannah drive everywhere, and everywhere we went. Old Navy, vespers, dairy queen, hiking. Our friendship has brought creativity, peace, and many baked goods!

bridesmaid: autumn hollandin 2020, when Victor and Autumn started dating, I not only got a sister, i got a friend. I will forever be grateful for when she played the song 'betty' in the car one day, as it strung my rekindled love of Taylor Swift and then we got to experience betty live at the eras tour. An incredible full circlce moment. She is patient, helped bring joy to my family and me during times of grief, and has been a steady source of fun and adventure.

bridesmaid: elizabeth farrarWhen Nathan told Elizabeth about me, one of the first things she asked was if I was a taylor swift fan. Little to say, the rest of our friendship was history. We even got to live the best night of our lives together: the eras tour in Indianapolis. She is joyful, charismatic, and I can't wait to officially be her sister.

best man: Graham achen (middle) and groomsman: jacob angell (right) graham: I remember that Lego Minotaurus game after second grade with you. The start of a movie. True cinema. Though we have aspirations to make a real movie, the experiences of tennis, 13 years of school, McDonald's runs, conspiracy theories, WBOY rankings, and memories of the joys and despairs of Big Ten West football (may she rest in peace) is plenty of material for Martin Scorsese to work with. jacob: Probably the most down-to-earth fella I’ve ever met. Going all the way back to the 8th grade play, through Youth in Government and tennis, and now into the wonderful era of exploring the good and bad of Dinkytown after another devastating Gopher loss. Which, perhaps, uncovers the common theme of a love of football between us - not in the least our mutual scorn for James Geoffrey Franklin.

groomsmen: Andrew Farrar (left) and Luke Farrar (right) Andrew: You, unfortunately, know me too well: between 21 on the hoop in the driveway, Mario Kart Wii, or the many other aspects of life that you, even as the younger, have the slightest advantage in as we have grown up. However, as iron sharpens iron, I have grown stronger than ever as a result of the epic Tickle Wars we waged. And for that - and much, much more - I thank you. luke: Apart from a shared love/rage for Brawl Stars, I have always been elated for you as the sibling to embrace tennis. One day soon, you will beat me; until then, I’m keeping my foot up on the gas. Your goofiness continues to exhilarate me; your budding passion for movies is electric. Until we meet again: keep balling out.

Groomsman: Adam witzelThe most confounding man I have ever had the pleasure of crossing paths with my freshman year of college. If I were to compare you to an obscure barbecue sauce flavor, sweet and saucy would more than suffice. We’ll make sure to have parking space for your unicycle if that’s (still) your transportation of preference.
