In 2007, Eileen met Stephen at her very first job working at the Jackson 10 movie theater where Stephen worked as a manager. They worked alongside each other for almost three years before Eileen moved on to her first salon job and Stephen moved to Lansing to manage the Lansing Mall Cinema. The two exchanged numbers before they would stop working together though not much would come of that just yet. Some time would pass before they would connect again, however they would inevitably start to text, hang out, and kiss. Eventually, they went on their first date in July 2011.

On August 21, 2011, Stephen arrived at Eileen's apartment with a bouquet of roses. Eileen graciously accepted the beautiful flowers and thanked him for bringing them so spontaneously. "Anything for my girlfriend," he replied, making their relationship official.

In 2013, they moved in together and shortly after adopted a two-year-old dog named Marcus. For years, they enjoyed spending time together and with friends, watching movies, going to Tigers games, and cooking together. They even traveled to Scotland for a beautiful whiskey adventure.

In January 2024, Stephen secretly bought Eileen a gold braided band and two tickets to a Tigers game on July 14, 2024, which he kept mentioning to her repeatedly throughout the year. "Are you excited about the game!?" And "Dont forget to take the day off!" He would say. At the game, while venturing to take a photo, Eileen suggested relocating for a better angle in front of the big tiger. As she took a few steps in pursuit of a better spot, Stephen spoke up to get her attention, "Hey!" Eileen turned around to find Stephen on one knee with a blue box in his hand. He asked, "Will you marry me?" She gasped and replied, "Oh my God! Yes, put it on me!" They never got the picture.
