Joe and Elaina first met in 2015 while playing tennis with some friends. After that we drifted apart. Almost a month later, Joe messaged Elaina on Twitter asking for her number. They would talk every day. One Friday night after Elaina got out of her dance class Joe asked her abruptly if he could pick her up for a bowling/ice cream date. She said yes, but her mom had to come out to the car first to meet him and she said “I just want to meet the guy my daughters going on a date with” 😂 Joe and Elaina clicked immediately. From that point on, Joe picked Elaina up from dance class every Friday night. A few weeks after our first date, we went on a fall date to parmenters cider mill. On the way there Joe put on a song by “The 1975” and Elaina was so shocked that he listened to her favorite band because they weren’t very known at the time. We sang at the top of our lungs that day on our way to the cider mill. After, they went to grab pizza at “Aubrees” and elaina noticed joe had a tin of altoid mints. When Elaina asked for a mint she opened the tin to find the word “girlfriend?” written on the tin. Of course she laughed and said yes.

Since then, their relationship has been filled with love and laughter.


December 17th, 2022 (7 years later) Joe got down on one knee at Campus Martius in front of the big Christmas tree. Everyone was clapping and smiling for them. Both of their families popped out from the crowd surprising them. After Joe proposed he pulled out another altoid container like the one from their first date. When Elaina opened it, it wrote “marry me?”. The rest of the night was filled love and drinks from Hermans (one of their fav pubs). The ride home consisted of listening to one of their favorite songs by the “The 1975” on full blast ❤️
