Our Wedding

I met David on the night of my brother’s senior recital at the Conservatory, where he was playing the guitar alongside his students. They were on stage across the room, the lights were dim, and everyone was wearing face masks. Though I could barely make out his features, save for his brown hair, he still captured my attention. His talent on the guitar was undeniable, and as someone who has long admired musical talents, I felt in my core that something was special about this gifted guitar player across the room. After the recital ended, I made a pitiful attempt to speak to him; it was nearly impossible with the number of students and parents surrounding him after the show. Nothing tangible or special really came of this interaction, yet I couldn’t stop thinking about the guitar player for weeks. Time passed, and despite nothing notable happening, I still found myself thinking about this guitar player. I felt in my soul that there was more to be explored with him. I spoke with my friend about the recital and how silly it was for me to be interested in someone when I really had no idea what he looked like or who he was. Yet, by either fate or the reality of living in Colorado Springs, she had gone to the same high school as this mysterious guitar player. She told me what she knew about David and, more importantly, vouched for his good character. By the end of that evening, I had her help me write and send a DM on Instagram to him, complimenting his music. To my relief, he quickly responded. That was the beginning of our communication with one another. We began to correspond daily and learned more about each other. Within a day or two, he asked if I was interested in a drink after one of his gigs. This date was nearly perfect; I had never connected with another soul so easily and quickly. The conversation flowed effortlessly, the energy and connection felt over text was amplified in person, and I felt truly seen. The night, unfortunately, had to end, but that was just the beginning of our story. From that day on, we were inseparable. Our love grew into something truly beautiful and special, a love one can only hope to experience. We are each other’s best friends, closest confidants, and biggest supporters. This mystery boy became my closest friend in the world. Our personalities are “well yoked,” as my mother would say. Where I am brash, he is calm. Where I am stubborn, he is empathic. Most importantly, he is kind, hardworking, and possesses a profound emotional depth that sees and understands the heart of things. I could list all the ways he shows me that he loves me (weekly flowers, heartfelt love letters, best cuddles, etc.), but despite all these beautiful things he does for me, I know he loves me because of his eyes. The eyes never lie, and when I look deeply into his beautiful bright green eyes, I see a love that is pure and unwavering, a love that assures me he is the one, my soulmate.

Elise's Perspective

I looked down at my phone to see a notification. The message read “Hey, I really like your music :) Btw I’m Elise, Marie’s sister”. A few intriguing exchanges later and we’d made plans to get drinks. As the week before we met passed by I felt myself full of excitement. I had a feeling that our connection would not be just some passing fling, but something far more special, significant, and life changing (I was right). When that evening did come Elise was truly the most captivating, witty, beautiful, and thoughtful person I had (and have) ever met. One thing I was immediately drawn to was Elise's wit. Her casual observations were so full of humor and I quickly noticed how wonderfully clever and intelligent that she was. The banter that we shared became the thing that I thought about most throughout the day. Her witty remarks replayed in my head for days on end. A few dates later and we were inseparable. As I grew to know Elise, each new quality that I discovered in her only endeared me to her further. Her glowing sweet brown eyes and gorgeous curly hair accompanied my every thought; I knew that I was falling hard for her with no end in sight. I also started to understand that she was someone who will stand up and speak out for what is right despite any disapproval that may come with it. And I began to feel such admiration and inspiration that I was truly in awe of this profoundly authentic, sweet wonderful human. The more time that passed, the more I realized how lucky I was. Elise’s presence in my life brought out all of my best qualities, ones that I had lost sight of in some ways. Elise encouraged me to follow my dream of finishing music school and we both worked toward our degrees together. We spent many a late night driving back to our houses from the others’. In times when we weren’t busy studying, we created amazing memories traveling, sharing amazing food, and going on adventures together. Elise has taught me countless things including but not limited to: how to ski (still working on that one), how to find the non touristy pasta places throughout Italy, and how to embrace vulnerability and truly express myself. She is my best friend and I feel so lucky every morning to wake up next to my soulmate. Someone who I feel truly seen by, and the person who still occupies most of my thoughts in a day. The best part of any work day is going to meet her because wherever that may be, it is home for me. I can imagine no other future than the one with this wonderful woman. Throughout the last three and a half years I’ve found the love of my life, a partner, my best friend, my muse, and my wife.
