Located 25 minutes from Orange, Barboursville is the former hometown of James Barbour, governor of Virginia, friend of Thomas Jefferson. In fact, the magnificent home of James Barbour was designed by Thomas Jefferson. Fire destroyed the mansion on Christmas day of 1884, but the striking ruins stand vigil as a reminder of this 18th governor of Virginia. Plus this is where we got engaged! We highly encourage visiting this site just before or after tasting wine and exploring the octagon wine cellar. It is so fun to explore!

Located 30 minutes from Orange, Merrie Mill is a charming winery with an excellent farm-to-table menu. The unique tasting room was designed purposefully to feel more like a creative, stylish, cozy residence than a commercial space. With eclectic antique furnishings, personal artwork, rich textures, colors, fabrics, and antique taxidermy, it has to be seen to be believed.

Reservations for the tasting room or terrace are recommended. No reservations are needed for the 10 parasol tables on the lawn. They are first come first serve so feel free to turn up if no reservations are available. There is an expansive outdoor area for children to run and play.
