What's the best way to get to Amsterdam?

If you're coming from outside of the EU or UK, we advise buying plane tickets as soon as you can to save on cost. Schipol airport is only a fifteen minute car ride outside of Amsterdam. It is easy to grab a taxi, hire an Uber or Bolt, or grab the train. Whichever you prefer. Be sure to have a ride sharing app pre-loaded on your phone with credit card attached for ease of use getting to and fro in the city. If you prefer the Metro, you can buy 1 hour or full day passes on the trams in the back. If you're traveling within the EU or UK, you can also look at trains to get to Amsterdam. Central Station is only about a 20 minute car ride to anywhere within Amsterdam.

What is the weather like?

While we will be having our event midsummer, there is no guarantee of nice weather in Amsterdam. The average temperature is 71 degrees F in July, but we have had days get up to 90 and as low as 60. It is best to prepare for anything. Check the weather apps before you pack and leave. Let's hope for sunshine but prepare for rain.

We're traveling with kids, are they allowed at the events?

Kids are welcome at all our wedding events. We will have babysitters available at the wedding reception. We will provide a safe space at the event in the evening for movie watching or sleeping if you'd like to stay and party but would like to have a space for your child to rest. If you live in the area, we do ask you to provide your own childcare, but if you are traveling from outside the Netherlands, we will do our best to make sure you can enjoy the wedding celebration. There will be no childcare at the events outside of the reception.

Are pets allowed?

Amsterdam is a very dog friendly city. Most cafes will allow dogs. They are not welcome in grocery stores and you should check your hotel accommodations before booking. That being said, we will NOT have pets at the wedding reception. They are welcome to the brunch at our house and at the park but must remain leashed during the summer months.

Some Helpful Info about Services in Amsterdam

Most places only take debit cards, not cash. Foreign credit cards do not work at most grocery stores but all other vendors take them. Tipping is advised if your service was good and at most only 10%. You have to ask for them to add the amount before you pay the bill and they are always super appreciative when you do. A check will never be dropped at your table, you always have to ask for it and at a lot of establishments you go up to the bar to pay your bill. Very few places allow multiple payments on one check. Ubers can be difficult to get, especially if you are not traveling too far to your location. We advise you familiarize yourself with Google Maps to get accurate public transit directions and try using the buses and trams when possible. They're very reliable and clean. Everyone speaks English within Amsterdam though it's always kind to politely ask, "Would it be okay if we spoke in English?"

Bikes! They're everywhere.

Bikes are the main form of transportation for the Dutch. To stay safe follow some of these rules. If walking, stay out of the red bike lanes. Be sure to always check both directions before crossing the street. Bikes have the right away in the Netherlands so they will not stop for you. If biking, stay in the designated bike areas. Do not ride on the sidewalk - walk the bike if necessary. It is polite to stop at the zebra crossings for pedestrians. Always press the buttons to walk or bike across an intersection.

Cafe vs Coffee Shop?

In the Netherlands, "coffee shops" are specifically marijuana vendors. When looking for a coffee shop that sells coffee, either google 'cafe' or 'koffie' - the Dutch spelling. Some good koffie places are - Mundis, White Label Coffee, Lot61, Five Ways, and Cafecito. There are Starbucks and The Coffee Company is similar to a Starbucks if that's what you prefer.
