Our Wedding

Our mutual friends, Gena and Brad, introduced us in early 2016. After a sunny afternoon exploring the Butter and Eggs Festival in Petaluma, CA, we started dating and traveling the world together. Within five months, James joined Elizabeth on a trip to Thailand and we never looked back. We spent the next four years indulging our shared love of travel, from Italy to Bali to Japan and more, until the pandemic holed us up in the house we bought together in Seattle, WA. Our biggest journey of all was yet to come. After accepting a new job in the Netherlands, James proposed on New Years Eve 2021 in Amsterdam, the city that would become our future home. On March 9, 2022, we eloped in Oahu, hoping we'd get the chance to celebrate with family and friends after our move. The festivities would be postponed further by the happiest of news. Two weeks before moving to Amsterdam we discovered we were pregnant. We welcomed our daughter, Eloise, to the family, on March, 5, 2023. Now, after nearly eight years together, we celebrate becoming a family, and we look forward to partying with all of you in our adopted home in the Netherlands. XO Elizabeth, James, and Eloise

Please feel free to search for accommodations on your own if these do not meet your criteria. There are plenty of hotels and a lot of options in Centrum if you'd rather be in the thick of it. AirBnBs are available but they do not let groups share so rooms are usually limited.

Be aware that this hotel is not near the venue if that is important to you. The booking price includes free cancellation up to 30 days before and breakfast which may be why the price is a bit higher than what you find online. If you need extra dates outside of the wedding block dates, they have mentioned you can email or call them directly to add those on. This is the closest hotel to our home. It is on the outskirts of the city so won't be central but is a good price. They do not allow dogs. The location is great for kids as there are at least three playgrounds walking distance from the hotel and they have a shuttle you can book from the airport.

This is a moderately priced hotel that allows dogs right in the middle of the Museum Quarter. Great central location and next to the museums if this interests you.

NH Museum Quarter

If you prefer to stay near the wedding venue, this hotel is in the East and does not seem too badly priced.

Restaurants

As for places to eat, the Oud-West area has a lot of decent places. The intersection of Bilderdijkstraat and Kinkerstraat has a lot of options. Collins is worth a visit. nNea Pizza - pretty busy with long wait times so be aware of that. Otemba Ramen. The Foodhallen is a fun visit. It's basically an indoor food market similar to the food truck vibe. Another fun neighborhood to try is De Pijp. In the day visit the Albert Cuyp Market for stroopwafel or herring and at night try some of the side streets around Albert Cuypstraat. If you actually want to try traditional Dutch food, you can visit Moeders but consider it more of a tourist thing to do than fine dining. If you're staying at the Leonardo, Toni's is a great sandwich place for grabbing a bite and heading into the park. Also, consider trying one of the many Turkish bakeries. A Pide is a Turkish pizza and they make really good to go food as well. Some moderately priced brasserie like restaurants around our neighborhood that are worth trying are: Cafe Cook, Cafe Goldmund, September, and a little further out - Stadscafe Van Mechelen. Some bakeries we love in our neighborhood are Fort Negen and Ulmu's. Be prepared for long lines at Fort Negen if you go on the weekend. They're famous for their croissant soft serve cones. If you want more fine dining, The Rijks Restaurant is a great option in the Museum Quarter, or De Kas - which is over near the wedding venue. Both would require reservations in advance. Restaurant Wolf Atelier is supposed to be good as well. For Indonesian food, try Restaurant Blauw or Ron's Gastrobar. Indonesia was a former Dutch colony and has a big influence on the food culture here, as well as Surinamese food. For more low key dining, one of our favorites is Van 't Spit - a rotisserie chicken place. Cannibale Royale is also good for steaks and burgers. For vegetarian, we really enjoyed Yerba. There are lots of hip vegan places as well like Vegan Junk Food Bar but Google for more options. And as for pancakes, Moak is a fun experience but be prepared for lines.

Hotels and Restaurants

There is plenty to do in Amsterdam outside of the wedding events. Consider booking a cruise along the canals, stopping in at a museum, walking through Centrum along the canals, and much more. If you want to do a museum visit, we highly suggest you book tickets before you arrive, sometimes even a month in advanced especially for the busy summer months. There are many more museums than listed here so take some time to research and see what interests you.
