What will the weather be like in September?
Expect sunny weather with highs in the high 70s to low 80s. In the night the temperature will drop down to a delightful low 60s. Rain is unlikely as October is their rainy season.
Should I fly into Rome or Florence?
It depends... if you have time and would like to spend some extra time with the Bride and Groom then fly into Rome, which usually offers more direct flights and is less expensive than Florence. If you are crunched on time and just flying in and out for the wedding, then Florence will be the closest to the venue but more expensive. Also to note, local Italians told us that flights to Florence are often re-routed to the Pisa airport (further from the venue) due to tough landing conditions.
If I am spending a longer time in Europe, should I still buy a rountrip ticket to Italy?
Yes, in most cases, buying roundtrip for your international vacation is the best way to book. If you plan to spend more time in Europe, you can find cheap roundtrip and one way flights on European airlines, such as Ryanair. For example, if you bought a roundtrip flight to Rome and plan to stay longer, we suggest traveling by train to several other destinations and buy a one way flight back to Rome. Or go back to Rome after the wedding and fly roundtrip to another destination in Europe. Some Ryanair flights are as inexpensive as $25 one way!! If you have more questions about traveling before or after our wedding, please call us and we would be happy to talk more about it.
Flying into Rome, how do I get to the venue?
We have organized transportation from Rome to Relais Riserva di Fizzano on Monday, September 15. Please meet at 12pm at Stazione Fidene.
When should I fly in and out?
We suggest to arrive in Italy by Sunday September 14th morning (at the latest), with one day of wiggle-room for travel mishaps. However, if you would like to go to the bachelor or bachelorette party, we suggest flying in earlier. More information about the bachelor(ette) parties in another question below.
Saturday night, September 20th would be the absolute earliest we suggest flying back to the States since the venue's check out is 10am on Saturday. Remember that you gain time flying back, so if you were to fly home on Sunday you would arrive back in the United States on Sunday. Also, if you would like to stay longer and take the opportunity to explore more of Europe, that is completely up to you!
Are children welcome?
While we adore being Auntie Elizabeth and Funcle Nathan, our wedding is an adults only affair to ensure everyone can fully unwind and revel in the celebration. We thank you for your understanding!
Can I bring a plus one?
No, due to limited space at the venue and the surrounding areas, we had to make the difficult decision to trim our guest list to a very select few family and friends. We thank you for your understanding!
What is the dress code for the wedding?
Get ready for a night of sophistication with our Black Tie dress code! Women embrace floor-length, colorful, vibrant dresses and go all out with chic accessories inspired by Italian elegance. Gentlemen, please come suited up in a tuxedo. If you would like to buy, the Suit Shop offers custom tux packages. If you would like to rent, the Black Tux has a 20 day return window for $60 (Use discount J85NJ68R for 15% off), Generation Tux offers an extended rental policy, and Jos. A Bank has 2 week rentals.
Do you have any recommendations for the 5 days we are at the venue?
Yes! Don't worry, you will not have to plan anything during the 5 days you are at the venue. We have planned an itinerary for each day to highlight the best of Tuscany. Expect day trips to nearby cities, wine tastings, and live "la dolce vita!"
What is the itinerary for the 5 days at the wedding venue?
Monday, September 15th guests will arrive at Relais Riserva di Fizzano, explore the venue, and freshen up before the Welcome Dinner. Tuesday is a full day in one of our favorite cities, Florence. Wednesday is the Wedding Day! Have a leisurely morning, relax by the pool, and take in the vineyard countryside before getting ready for the wedding festivities that start at 3pm in the courtyard of Relais Riserva di Fizzano. Thursday is the wine tasting and pasta class, and pasta dinner. Friday afternoon we are visiting San Gimignano before having our last group dinner together at Fizzano. Saturday, September 20th is check out.
What if I don't want to do an activity on a certain day?
No worries, you can explore the area around the venue, take a walk in the vineyards, relax by the pool, enjoy a glass of wine. If you would like to do more exploring on your own, you will need to organize transportation with the venue on your own. The staff at Riserva di Fizzano are very helpful. Keep in mind that the venue is in the countryside of Tuscany, so transportation outside the daily planned activites will need to be scheduled ahead of time.
What is the dress code each day?
There are two special events with specific dress codes. On Monday, September 15th, join us for the welcome dinner, where the dress code is Elegant Tuscan Chic—a perfect blend of sophistication and relaxed Italian charm. On Wednesday, we celebrate the wedding with a Black Tie dress code. Please refer to the previous question for more details on black tie attire. For the remainder of the week, the dress code is casual.
How walkable is the venue?
The hotel, the pool, and the restaurant on the venue's property are all very walkable. The only stairs at the venue are up to some of the rooms, and short stairs down to the pool.
Do I need to rent a car?
No, we have transportation planned for the daily activities during the 5 days we are staying at the wedding venue. However, if you plan to go off on your own during the 5 days, then renting a car may be an option. We only suggest renting a car if you have driven in another country before and feel comfortable driving.
What are the food availability and options for the 5 days?
The venue has a fantastic restuarant on site. Breakfast will be provided each morning, and there will be several dinners hosted by the Bride and Groom throughout the week that you will not want to miss! When we are not having a group dinner, there will be other dining options available. Also, the restaurant is available at any time and each room has a fridge if you would like to bring home any fresh cheese and meats from the local towns.
Are there any other activities happening outside the 5 days at the venue?
Yes! The bachelor and bachelorette parties will be held in Italy the weekdend before the wedding. We invite anyone to join either the bachelor or bachelorette party. More information to come!
Do I bring a gift?
Your presence at our wedding is the greatest gift we could ask for! If you’d like to give a gift as well, we kindly request that you avoid bringing large or bulky items. Packing and traveling through Europe can be quite challenging. If you would like, you can send them to our home address before or after the wedding. Also, our registry has options to donate to our honeymoon fund and other activities if you do not want to travel with additional cash.
What is our home address?
702 Cleveland Street Apt 2406, Houston TX 77019
What should I pack?
Euros- most places take card but it is always nice to have cash for a taxi, shopping in a market, or paying for small items like a $2 coffee. Passport- definitely will need this! Pack layers for clothing- Since the temperature can range from warm during the day to cooler at night, layers will keep you comfortable in any situation. Comfortable walking shoes- Italy is known for their cobblestone streets and uneven pavements. An adapter- A universal adapter with multiple USB ports is best. You can find a lot of options on Amazon. Remember, if you forget to pack anything you can always buy it in Italy. Italy is not another planet, just another country. You will be able to find the essentials there.
What should I NOT pack?
Do not overpack- I know it is hard, especially when traveling for a wedding. Pack as strategically as possible because the smaller the luggage and the less bags, the better. Remember those cobblestones? Yeah they are not fun to drag lugguage.
What are the expected costs?
The flight should range anywhere from $500-$1200 when booking in the peak 4-6 month prior booking window. (Yes, you can find $500 international flights. In fact our flight to wedding plan in 2024 was only $550 roundtrip.) If you are seeing higher prices than that, please contact us. The 5 nights at the wedding venue are being paid for by the Bride and Groom as a thank you for traveling the long distance to celebrate the big day. Food can range anywhere from around $10 for a great sandwich to $100 for Michelin star restaurant with everything in between depending on your wallet, but you never have to sacrifice taste and quality for price in Italy. Expect a great bottle of wine to cost $10-$15, and restaurants' house wine is always good and reasonably priced. Order tap water if the restaurant has it, otherwise you will pay more for water than wine. A lot of museums are free, or at a reasonable price. Nathan and I will provide more of a guide of the places we are visiting with restaurant, museum, shopping, bar recommendations, etc. once we arrive at the venue.
How will we communicate once we get there?
To communicate via text you can connect to local wifi. For example, once you arrive in the airport you can connect to their wifi and text us that you arrived! If you do not want to rely on hopping from wifi to wifi, you can contact your cell phone provider to see what international plans are available to you. For instance, ours is $10/ day on Verizon.
Where should I RSVP?
Please RSVP under the RSVP tab on this website. You will RSVP to the wedding as well as the additional activities. Please use the itinerary from the invitation to see the day by day activities.
How excited are we?
We could not be more excited to spend our special day with all of our loved ones in one of our favorite places in the world!!! We are counting down the days until we get to enjoy our passion of travel with all of you!
