Beth and Matt both swiped right on Bumble and chatted for a few weeks. They decided to meet up and try a new spot the Hawthorne in Fenway. Matt was enjoying the date and asked Beth on a second one before the first one was finished. Beth was taken by surprise, but of course she said yes!
You read that right! After spending the night at the Museum of Fine Arts and dinner, Beth asked Matt if he wanted to be her boyfriend.
If you know this reference good for you!
Beth was attending and presenting at a conference that day in the city and was already a bundle of nerves. Weeks prior Matt asked if she wanted to go to dinner in the city after the conference.
After getting ready, and ordering an Uber, Matt asked Beth if she wanted to see the Christmas lights near the restaurant. Of course! Beth is a sucker for all things Christmas! Unfortunately, when they arrived, Beth could see there was in fact no lights. Slightly disappointed, but not wanting to ruin the night, Beth said nothing and continued to follow Matt down the walkway.
This is Matt's favorite view of Boston. He stopped on the walkway and asked Beth "You know I love you, right?" to which Beth replied, "even when I'm annoying!" to which Matt chuckled and said yes.
That's when he got down on one knee and asked Beth if she "wanted to do this thing". If you're reading this of course you already know the answer to that question! Luckily a wonderful friend was there to catch the moment (shout out to Andres) as well as a surprise photographer who had been hired by another couple getting engaged 20ft further down the walkway. We all had a good laugh and basked in the post-engagement glow.
Unbeknownst to Beth, her parents were waiting at Mamma Maria in the North End with Matt's family to celebrate. Matt picked this date to propose because it was the one that worked best to for her parents to fly up.
