Our story began in the spring of 2018, in the most unexpected of places: the campus pool at the University of Notre Dame, affectionately known as “The Rock”. Charles and I both chose to become lifeguards as our on campus employment during our first semester. During one early Sunday training session that semester, we were introduced. However, we did not get to know each other very well until I chose to audition as an equipment manager for the Notre Dame Marching Band, where Charles was already proudly serving as a member of the mighty Bass section. With the 2018 fall semester bringing marching band commitments for both of us, we found ourselves spending countless early mornings together, working the 6 AM shift. Those quiet hours by the pool became our own little world. We'd talk for what felt like forever, diving deep into discussions about political science, literature, and our shared, slightly obsessive love for the films "Miracle" and "The Mummy." And, of course, there was Charles's ever-present, burgeoning desire to take over the world – a topic that always brought a laugh. It took a full year for us to officially get together, but on January 20, 2019, our relationship became official. Charles is always quick to remind everyone that he asked me out first, but the true beginning of our journey as a couple happened when I asked him out. It was next to a bench overlooking the serene St. Mary's Lake, and my confession was truly enormous: "You were right." For the next two and a half years at Notre Dame, we grew closer than we ever thought possible, even while navigating periods apart for study abroad opportunities in places like St. Petersburg, Russia, and London, England. Whenever we had the chance, our paths would converge. We'd meet on the first floor of LaFortune Student Center (or "LaFun," as we called it) to study, walk the campus lakes, or simply hang out in our residential halls, Fisher and Flaherty, watching movies. Post-marching band, we'd grab a meal at South Dining Hall ("the superior dining hall," Charles insists!), or embark on spontaneous adventures. College was a time of immense growth, and we learned so much about and from each other. Charles patiently taught me words in Russian, while I took on the crucial task of educating him about the Harry Potter series, gifting him the entire book collection as "educational material." We discovered our differences, like Charles's inexplicable dislike of pickles, but even these quirks only added to the joy and laughter we found in each other every single day. After graduating college in 2021, we took a big leap: long-distance. We embarked on our own professional journeys, with 600 miles separating us. I chose to work as an Admissions Counselor for the University of Notre Dame for four years before deciding to move back to Pittsburgh to attend the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. Meanwhile, Charles moved to Washington, D.C. -- starting in the House of Representatives before moving to the Senate, eventually becoming one of the youngest Legislative Directors in the U.S. Senate. As a couple, we learned the art of communication across those miles, finding little ways to make it work. I became the regional lead for the mid-Atlantic region, which meant I could spend three to five weeks of the year visiting high schools in the local Washington, D.C. area while also saving the University plenty of money on accommodations. In return, Charles would often "crash" in South Bend during his out-of-session weeks. These visits were always a highlight, bridging the distance and reminding us of our constant connection. Over these past seven years together, we've found immense joy in exploring new places. We've traveled to Pittsburgh, Orlando, New York, Dallas, Corolla, Colonial Williamsburg, Norfolk, Boston, Lexington, and Traverse City, creating countless memories along the way. Charles has successfully completed two marathons and one half-marathon, and I have crocheted fourteen blankets ("yes, these are equally rigorous accomplishments," I maintain!). Then, on Friday, May 23, 2025, Charles proposed in the very place where it all began: that same bench overlooking St. Mary's Lake on Notre Dame's campus. It was a full-circle moment, filled with so much love and anticipation. We are incredibly excited to invite all the people we treasure, those who have stood by us through every step of these past seven years, back to the campus where everything started. While South Bend International Airport (SBN) offers some convenient direct flights (especially from the D.C. area!), you might find a wider selection of flights into Chicago O'Hare (ORD) or Midway (MDW). Just a friendly reminder: Chicago operates on Central Time, while South Bend &amp; Notre Dame are on Eastern Time, so please plan your travel accordingly! For a cost-effective and convenient way to travel between Chicago and South Bend, consider taking the South Shore Line. This train service connects Millennium Park in downtown Chicago directly to the South Bend Airport, with various stops along the route.

Our ceremony will be held at 1:00 PM at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart on the University of Notre Dame’s campus. The address is 101 Basilica Dr, Notre Dame, IN 46556. Beginning at 5:00 PM, the cocktail hour and reception will be taking place at The Brick in South Bend, which is located at 1145 Northside Blvd, South Bend, IN 46615

When should I RSVP by?

Please kindly RSVP by June 5, 2026, so we can finalize our arrangements.

Is it okay to take pictures during the wedding ceremony?

Our ceremony will be part of a full Catholic Mass. Out of respect for the sanctity of the service, we kindly ask that you refrain from taking pictures during the ceremony. Our wonderful photographer will capture every moment, and we'll be happy to share those photos with you later. You are welcome to take pictures during the reception!

What will the weather be like?

Late July in Indiana can be quite warm and a bit humid. While all of our wedding events will be held indoors or under cover, we recommend bringing an umbrella or raincoat in case of light showers as you move between locations.

What should I wear?

Our wedding will be Black Tie Optional. We'd love for you to wear formal attire. This could be a tuxedo or a dark suit with a tie, a formal evening gown, a cocktail dress, or any other elegant ensemble that makes you feel great!

What should I do between the ceremony and cocktail hour?

You'll notice a brief gap in time between the ceremony and the start of cocktail hour. We encourage you to use this time however you wish! Whether you prefer a quick nap, an ice cream treat from Murphy's, or a drink at one of South Bend's local bars, the time is yours. How do I get to and from the wedding venues?

The University of Notre Dame campus is about a 25‑minute walk or an 8‑minute drive from the Courtyard by Marriott South Bend Downtown. If you’re traveling without a car, rideshares like Uber and Lyft are readily available. We will provide complimentary bus transportation between the Courtyard Marriott and The Brick for guests attending the reception; buses will begin departing the hotel at 5:00 PM and run continuous loops until 10:30 PM.

Where can I park my car?

For the wedding ceremony, you can park in the Grotto Lot or St. Liam's Lot on campus; both are a short walk from the Basilica. Breakfast &amp; Coffee- Early Bird Eatery: If you are looking for a more contemporary brunch spot, Early Bird is the place for you! We particularly love their Blueberry Pancakes, especially if you are looking for a sweet treat food coma afterwards!&nbsp;&nbsp;- PEGGS: If you are looking for a more classic diner experience, look no further! PEGGS is well-loved for its cozy atmosphere and hearty breakfast plates.- Yellow Cat: This is truly our favorite South Bend greasy spoon. If you need a serious pick-me-up and a hearty breakfast, this is the place for you.&nbsp;- Cloud Walking: While a bit outside of walking distance to downtown South Bend, the coffee and vibe are worth the trip!&nbsp;- Dainty Maid Food Hall: If you need a variety of cuisine options, Dainty Maid houses multiple vendors offering diverse breakfast and lunch choices.- Chicory Cafe: While it is best known for its lively Trivia on Thursday nights, Chicory is also an excellent option for a quick bite and some coffee.&nbsp;- Cafe Java: While the debate for top coffee shop in South Bend is controversial and intense, this is Elizabeth’s favorite spot. Bars in Downtown South Bend- Fiddler’s Hearth: A traditional Irish pub with a cozy feel and good drinks.- Lasalle Kitchen &amp; Tavern: Charles’s favorite whenever he is in town! A stylish spot offering craft cocktails and a modern tavern menu.- Iron Hand: Known for its unique, handcrafted cocktails and relaxed ambiance overlooking the St. Joseph River.- Corby’s: Our go-to dive bar while Elizabeth was living in South Bend.&nbsp;- Hammer &amp; Quill: A popular downtown bar with an extensive drink menu and a cool vibe. Their bartenders are also incredibly knowledgeable and kind.&nbsp;- Crooked Ewe: Best view of the St. Joseph River! Grab a beer, and you can watch the Notre Dame crew team practice while sitting on the back porch.

Eddy Street Commons (Near Campus)- O’Rourke’s: A lively Irish pub perfect for a casual drink or meal.- Bru Burger: Famous for its gourmet burgers and delicious shakes.- Brothers: A popular sports bar with classic American fare.

Mexican- Taqueria Chicago: We have eaten here so much that they know our names when we call to order. It is a Notre Dame Game Day Favorite! While a bit outside of downtown South Bend, it is worth the trip!&nbsp;- Salsas: This was a popular spot for us in college. A lively place with flavorful Mexican dishes and a festive atmosphere.- Jesus: If you are looking for a nicer place to eat with a unique culinary experience, we would highly recommend it.&nbsp;

Pizza- The Lauber: While a bit more trendy, the location in downtown South Bend is hard to beat, and their pizzas are a crust above!&nbsp;- Rocco’s: A must visit in the Soller’s Guide to South Bend. They are known for their authentic, old-school Italian pizza.- Barnabys: A beloved local chain offering consistently good pizza in a family-friendly setting.- Brunos: A long-standing South Bend institution famous for its topping-heavy pizza.

Sweet Treat- Murphy’s Ice Cream: An absolute must-visit for classic, homemade ice cream – a perfect treat on a summer day!- BFF Bakery: A delightful spot for delicious baked goods! Perfect for a morning pastry with your coffee or a sweet treat anytime.- South Bend Chocolate Cafe: A beloved local spot to satisfy your sweet tooth! Walk Around Campus: Our beautiful campus truly shines in the summer! Enjoy a leisurely stroll around the lakes, find a picturesque spot for a picnic on one of the quads, or join a free guided walking tour from the Eck Visitors Center.

South Bend Cubs Baseball: Catch a minor league baseball game at Four Winds Field! Certainly, we always try to catch a game when we have a chance, especially when they fall on Thirsty Thursday's!

Raclin Murphy Museum of Art: Located right on Notre Dame's campus, this incredible museum boasts around 1,000 works of art across 23 galleries, plus stunning new commissions. Don't miss the Charles B. Hayes Family Sculpture Park outside. Best of all? It's completely free to explore!

South Bend River Lights: Head to downtown South Bend to see this dazzling light display along the St. Joseph River. While Seitz Park is under construction, you can still catch a panoramic view of the lights from the Jefferson or Colfax bridges.

Fridays by the Fountain: If you're looking for things to do on the Wedding Friday, join the locals at Jon R. Hunt Plaza (in front of the Morris Performing Arts Center). Enjoy live music and a variety of food vendors. You can grab a blanket or chair and relax on the lawn!

Parks Around The Bend: South Bend and Mishawaka are home to numerous beautiful parks perfect for a serene escape. Visit Howard Park or Leeper Park along the St. Joseph River. In Mishawaka, check out Battell, Kamm Island, Beutter, or Central Parks. For a unique experience, don't miss the tranquil Shiojiri Niwa Japanese Garden. Many parks offer great trails for walking, running, or biking.

South Bend Museum of Art: Dive into a full spectrum of historical and contemporary art across five engaging galleries. While not required, a suggested $5 donation for non-members helps support this fantastic local gem. Be sure to browse The Dot Shop for unique works by local artists!
