Are children invited to attend?
Although we love your little ones, this is an adult only (18 and over) affair.
Where are the ceremony and reception taking place?
Avali Sea Resort in Karavados, Kefalonia, Greece; Above Agios Thomas Beach.
Is there another celebration taking place in the US?
There isn’t. But, Matt & Elli completely understand and will not be offended if you can’t make it! “We completely understand the cost to travel, taking the time off of work, and being away from other commitments may not achievable for some. Please join us if you’re able, but we’ll gladly accept your warm wishes from afar!”
Where do we stay?
Please check the travel tab for all accommodation info & suggestions.
How do we get from the airport to our hotel/airbnb and to the venue on the day of the wedding?
Please make sure to schedule any transfers. See the home page for a taxi suggestion.
How long is the flight?
It’s about a 9-10 hour nonstop flight from NYC airports to Athens. The flight from Athens to Kefalonia is about one additional hour.
What’s the time difference?
Get ready for some JET LAG! Greece is 7 hours ahead of Eastern Time.
What’re typical weather conditions in Kefalonia in July?
Plan for hot weather. Average temperatures range between 80-90. At night it usually gets a bit cooler; mid 60s.
When should we arrive/how long should we stay?
It’s important to note that when flying to Greece YOU WILL ARRIVE ONE DAY AFTER YOUR DEPARTURE. The wedding takes place on July 10th. We suggest arriving by July 9th the latest, which means you would need to fly out of USA by July 8th the latest. A suggestion: Visit Kefalonia from July 6-13, so you have enough time to enjoy parts of the island before and after the wedding. Or stay as long as you’d like! There’s plenty to explore, including other nearby islands.
How do we get around?
One option is to rent a car. You must specifically ask for an automatic vehicle, as most vehicles are standard in Greece. We’ve also seen ATV rentals, which you would have to research. There’s also always getting a taxi to travel from place to place. Most Airbnb’s, hotels, etc. have contact information for taxi service. *driving in Kefalonia is nothing like the states; roads are extremely narrow, mountainous, and dangerous. *it may be mandatory to obtain an international drivers license before renting a car.
How do we communicate?!
Not to worry! Tourism is extremely popular in Kefalonia. Most if not all of the population speaks English. Menus at restaurants are even interpreted in English.
Will my cell phone work?
Most carriers offer international plans. You can check with your individual carrier and set up a plan before arriving.
Currency?
Euros/Credit. You can exchange US dollars for Euros at most banks in Kefalonia. The exchange rate varies by day. There are also currency exchange kiosks in the airports (US & Athens). You may use a credit card too (just double check that your card company knows you are traveling/they do not charge international fees).
How much should I budget?
It’s hard to say because it depends on when you book, how luxurious you want your trip to Greece to be, etc. But, at a minimum (with flights) we would say to budget AT LEAST $3,000-$4,000 per person for a 5-7 day trip. Keep in mind, the exchange rate as well. As we’ve mentioned, we realize this is an *expensive* trip. As much as we’d like for everyone to be there, we understand prioritizing other responsibilities! We will happily accept your well wishes from afar.
