Jacob and Ellie met their first day of lifeguard training at Hume Lake Christian Camps. He was immediately struck by how beautiful she was, as well as her kindness to everyone around her. Ellie was immediately surprised by his physical stature, and was drawn in by how easy he was to talk to, and his personality made her feel safe. They spent many hours these first few weeks and months, talking and getting to know each other. In this season, Ellie was able to meet Jacob's parents and work with his brother Gerrit. Jacob was also able to meet her parents when they came up to visit her.
Jacob and Ellie had been hanging out for some time when he knew she was the kind of person he wanted to keep around for a long time. So while on an adventure with their friends around Kings Canyon he asked her if she would be his girlfriend. In his mind, he was sure that Ellie would add nothing but joy and adventure to his life and wanted to keep her around for quite a while. Ellie, after some time of going on dates felt like he was quickly becoming her best friend and safe place in her new world and was excited for many more days of laughter, joy and peace. She was very excited to say "yes"!!
Jacob and Ellie had been talking about engagement for about a year by the time His proposal happened. Ellie knew it was approaching, but thought it was still a ways away. On the 11th of November, Ellie was under the impression she was attending his fall formal at school and was fully prepared for a fun evening of dancing with friends. Jacob and Ellie then went down to the beach to take sunset pictures with all their friends. It was this moment that Jacob decided to strike. In one of the most terrifying moments of his life, he got down on one knee and pulled out the ring box he had been concealing in his back pocket. In reality, there was nothing to fear and before he could even get through his first sentence, Ellie had already said "Hurry up, YES YES YES!!". After this, they spent the evening reminiscing and enjoying the company of their closest friends.
