Alex and Emily officially met in 2019 during an ultimate frisbee alumni weekend at Michigan State University. They had crossed paths at frisbee events since 2014! Alex had played for Western Michigan University in college and was visiting some friends, and Emily had played for MSU. They really noticed a spark that night on the dance floor, when they both spent hours dancing and singing to old throwback songs, outlasting all of their friends. They had exchanged messages for awhile, but didn't start seeing each other until April 2020. Thanks to COVID, it took awhile to get a real "first date" but the pandemic allowed for a lot of free time to get to know each other quickly. They knew right away that they were building something special.

When they were finally able to get out, their first date was at San Chez in Grand Rapids. They found their favorite wine on that date from Grand Traverse winery, and still drink it and think of that night.

The engagement happened on March 28th 2025 - the night before Emily's 30th birthday. Alex had planned a birthday party at an AirBnB on a nearby lake, and went a little early to check in. Alex proposed with a ring he designed, and had included his grandmother's diamonds into - it was so thoughtful. The next morning, Emily and Alex's families arrived (as an amazing surprise!) to celebrate. They felt incredibly blessed to have them there that night, and can't wait to celebrate with so many more of you in May!
