Emily and Tomoyuki met at Samurai Papa, a ramen restaurant in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. Samurai Papa was one of the only restaurants near Emily's apartment, so she was a regular customer. Not only did Emily love the ramen, but she also developed a crush on a particular manager (you can probably guess who). After a few months of frequenting the restaurant with no luck getting the manager's attention, Emily became sick of ramen and discouraged. Finally, she was faced with a decision: Give up and move on or ask the manager out on a date. Worst comes to worst, Samurai Papa had a sister restaurant called Samurai Mama nearby that she could frequent instead.

Well, this website exists, so you can probably guess which one Emily chose. After a successful first date, Emily and Tomo have spent almost every day together visiting museums, antiquing, taking road trips, and simply enjoying each other's company.

Emily and Tomo decided to get married in August 2020 underneath the Brooklyn Bridge, providing a moment of joy for themselves, a few friends, and an officiant found on Craigslist during the height of the pandemic. It was a beautiful day filled with love from friends, but something important was missing: family. The couple is beyond excited to finally host their friends and family to celebrate their wedding on July 22, 2022.
