Emily & Mark

September 4, 2022 • Sterling, VA

What should I wear?

We cannot wait to see you dressed to impress! Our wedding attire will be cocktail attire, so please don your favorite suit and tie, dressy jumpsuit, or stylish dress. If you aren't sure how nice to dress - follow Emily's rule and know that you can never be overdressed! If you care to match an aesthetic (as you know your favorite bride-to-be does) and want your outfit to tell the same story as our wedding vibes, dress like you belong in a sunset or in earth-toned colors. We ask that you refrain from wearing shades of white, cream, or tan.

Where should I stay?

You are more than welcome to stay anywhere you feel most comfortable, but we will have room blocks at two different hotels: The Hampton Inn at Dulles/Cascades and The Courtyard Marriott at Dulles Town Center. You can find the links and information about these below! You will also find information about the Riverfront Cottages, located on venue property.

This hotel is about 8 miles from the airport and 3.6 miles away from our venue. Please book your room by August 3, 2022 to be part of the block and receive our discounted rate. Depending on the number of rooms booked in this block, a shuttle may be provided to the venue - further details will come on that as we approach the wedding date.

Riverfront Cottages at Algonkian Regional Park

47001 Fairway Dr, Sterling, VA 20165, USA
(703) 450-4655

These cottages are located on park property, just a walk away from our wedding venue itself. We do not have a block on these cottages, but if you're interested, visit the link to view options and book! This is a great option if you're looking to stay with multiple other families, as the cabins range from 2 bedrooms to 5.

How do I get there?

Great question! Our wedding venue is called The Woodlands at Algonkian, which is located at Algonkian Regional Park on the Algonkian Golf Course. Good ol' Google Maps and Apple Maps will get you where you need to go, but the tip and trick is: once you hit park property, keep turning right! You can't miss it :)

Is Emily going to make me eat vegan?!

NO, silly! For those who aren't aware - both of us have dietary restrictions - some more serious than others, but all important to us. Because of this, it is really important to us that everyone feel comfortable eating at our wedding. When you RSVP, please note any dietary restrictions you may have - and we will do our best to communicate to you anything that may be unsafe for you to eat. We will be doing a buffet style meal, to allow for customization for each person's needs and diets.

Can I take home the decor?

We try our hardest to be the west coast sustainable king and queen you know us to be - and a huge part of our dream to be environmentally friendly on our wedding day is to rent a good portion of our wedding decor. Because of this, many items do not belong to us, so please respect Emily’s hard work curating an aesthetic vision and respect the brands we’ve partnered with by leaving all the decor exactly where I’ve left it. Special shoutout to Something Borrowed Blooms and Bride and Joy Rentals for helping us access our dream ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception while reducing our environmental impact.

Should I bring a gift to the wedding, or ship it instead?

We are so honored that you would get us a gift to celebrate our special day! We ask, if possible, you ship our gifts instead of bringing them to the wedding. If you shop online with our registries, they are set up with our shipping address. We live over 3,000 miles from our venue, and will have to pay to get all our gifts across the country. PLUS: if you ship gifts straight to our home in Oregon, you don’t have to pay sales tax!! Now that is a WIN WIN.
