The Beginning

Colin and Emily met their Junior year in high school when they were assigned to sit next to each other as "elbow partners" in pre-calculus. They immediately had a connection that would lead to several years of friendship. Their senior year, Emily decided to let Colin know that he was asking her to homecoming. He wrote "Homecoming?" on a white board, she took a picture and posted it online, and their first date was etched in history. Colin went all out and got Emily arguably the biggest mum in Katy High School History, a kind gesture that would soon be outdone by him leaving the dance early to get Whataburger with the boys.

Friendship Continued

After graduating High School, they both left for College Station. For the most part, they went their own directions to figure out who they were. Emily found community in Impact Retreat, her church and her roommates. Colin spent the majority of his time in college leading Young Life. There were a few times where they would periodically catch up.... Colin would go find time to study with Emily, Emily would call Colin when she had car troubles. The thought was always in the back of both of their minds, but a date never came about. It would turn out that the Lord would have better timing in mind than they would.

Friendship Evolved

Colin got his degree and promptly went to work in Houston. He rented a house back in Katy. Emily was finishing up her student teaching in Katy as well. One night, Colin reached out to Emily and invited her over for BBQ and games with his friends. He thought he was being normal, but apparently he was quite literally attached at the hip to her. Shortly after, they saw each other at a fundraiser and fully caught up on life and what the future looked like for each other. Something started to stir inside both of them that evening. Later that week, Colin asked Emily to come dancing with him and his church group and she happily obliged. The night went great, but there wasn't much clarity on either end. Colin took a couple days, but soon asked Emily to go drive around with him. That night, for the first time out of all the times, he was clear that he had feelings for Emily and wanted to pursue her if she would let him. Fortunately for him, she said yes!

Dating

The two officially became a couple in December 2020. After being friends for seven years, dating came pretty easy. Not easy as in always seeing things the same way, but easy in talking about the relationship and being honest with what each other were looking for in their future spouses. It soon became clear to both of them that they wanted to spend forever together. Things got a little less convenient as Emily started teaching full time and Colin moved into his new home an hour away in Pearland. They were somehow closer, yet further than they had ever been. The dating relationship consumed most weekends and a weekly date night meeting somewhere in the middle. During this chapter, they began to explore the idea of marriage more and more. Emily had a specific timeline in her head of when they would move their relationship forward. Colin's was a little bit shorter.

He Asked (She said Yes)

On August 5th, 2021, a night when Emily thought they were just going to a work dinner to celebrate a record month at his job, Colin completely surprised Emily when he asked her to spend the rest of her life with him!

We are overjoyed in this season of engagement and are so thankful for the love and support that has been poured out on us from our family and friends. As great as this time is, we are even more thrilled to begin the rest of our lives together as Husband and Wife!
