A list of our favorite places to indulge while in Maui! We hope you enjoy them as much as we do!

Akamai Coffee Co

Breakfast/Coffee

My favorite coffee shop! I love trying their specialty lattes and Andrew enjoys the variety of iced teas they offer. They have great options for breakfast whether you want to sit down and eat or grab-and-go. Located both in Wailea and Kihei. The Wailea location is our favorite with outdoor patio seating! It's within walking distance of the Wailea Beach Resort.

Our favorite lunch spot! Andrew recommends the bumbye burger and I recommend a bumbye bowl. We also like chips & guac for an appetizer and the Road to Hana smoothie for a treat. Located at the Andaz resort, you'll take the Wailea Beach Path to the resort watching for the signs which will direct you to Bumbye Beach Bar.

Best woodfired pizza on Maui! Everything from the small selection of cocktails to the gelato is delicious. We recommend starting with either the little gem or chopped salad. We love the classic Pepperoni pizza, the Calabrese pizza, and the Bianca pizza. My favorite cocktail is the Chef's Day Off! Of course finish your meal off with gelato as well. What to do

A list of our favorite things to do while visiting Maui! We hope you enjoy them as well. Please note, majority of these require you to have a rental car.

Sunset on Haleakala

Vehicle Required

Watch the sunset from 10,000 ft above on Haleakala, the east Maui volcano! Easily one of the best views to see while visiting. You can also go for sunrise, but you will need to make a reservation as Haleakala is a National Park. Once you reach the top, temperatures will drastically drop to the 30-50s. If you're planning to do this, bring warm clothes!

From Wailea, it takes a little over an hour to drive to the top. The drive is on roads that twist & turn. Plan to arrive to the top about 20-30 minutes before sunset.

You will have to pay a park entrance fee for sunset which should be about $30 per car. Be sure to use the restroom, bring any water/snacks, and fuel your vehicle beforehand.

We recommend heading up for sunset, and on your way back down, stopping at Marlow for dinner!

Waihe'e Ridge Trail

Vehicle Required

If you're looking for a tough hike/good workout with an incredible view at the top - this is the hike for you! An out and back trail that is little over 4 miles in total.

The trail head is about 45 minutes from Wailea/Kihei area.

The trail opens at 7am and we recommend getting there as close to that time as possible, and no later than 7:45am. This is a popular trail and the main parking lot fills up quickly. Also, being that this hike is in the West Maui mountains, it is known for rainy weather and cloud coverage. By getting there early, you can beat the clouds that will eventually roll in.

Please note, this hike is an incline the entire way to the top and due to the common rainy weather that area of Maui experiences, the trail can be wet/muddy and become slick.

We suggest wearing a solid trail sneaker or hiking boots if you have them.

You can read more about the hike as well as reviews from those that have hiked the trail, here.

If you do this hike, we recommend stopping at the Iao Valley State Monument which is about 20 minutes from the trail head. Since it's a state park, there is an admission fee of $5/person I believe. You can read more information about the Iao Valley State Monument, here.

Road to Hana

Vehicle Required

A full day adventure that consists of waterfall stops and hikes along the way. Plan to get an early start around 7/8am to make the most of the day.

We recommend stopping at Jaws County Store at the start of the trip for breakfast to fuel up, and stopping at Hana Farms for lunch and picking up some local goodies to ship home. The restaurant is closed on Mondays. We loved the mango tea!

Some of our favorite stops on the Road to Hana are: the Black Sand Beach, Red Sand Beach, and the Pipiwai Trail that leads to Waimoku Falls, a 400' waterfall. The trail is about 4 miles around trip. My favorite part of the trail is walking through the bamboo forest.

We love using the Maui Revealed: The Ultimate Guide Book by Andrew Doughty to help pick out stops along the way. We also love going down the backside of the mountain to end the trip. The Road to Hana is beautiful on the way in, but the backside on the way home really takes your breath away.

Beach

No vehicle required

Lounge on the beach and soak up some sun! We love to relax at Ulua Beach which is right near Wailea Beach Resort.

There are no chairs or umbrellas on the beach, but you can rent them from Snorkle Bobs or Auntie Snorkle for usually under $50/week. You can also rent snorkel gear! Ulua Beach is a great spot for snorkeling.
