New York, New York! As Sean likes to say, "da greatest city in da woild!" There are more options than we can possibly describe here, but here is some guidance.
There are three commercial airports that can deliver you to New York: La Guardia (LGA) in north Queens, John F Kennedy (JFK) in east Queens, and Newark (EWR) in east New Jersey.
Once you've landed, use local transit (info below) to get to your accommodations.
If you're taking a train or bus, you can find local transit at Grand Central, Pennsylvania, and Port Authority stations.
We do not have a block of hotel rooms, but have a few suggested hotels below:
✭ Manhattan Hotels:
Moxy (Marriott)
✭ Queens Hotels:
Aloft La Guardia Airport (Marriott)
✭ Brooklyn Hotels:
Hotel Indigo (IHG)
You will find many more accommodations in Brooklyn than in Queens, but given that the venue (the wonderful Vander Ende-Onderdonk House) is on the border where Queens meets Brooklyn, this is not a bad thing.
When booking accommodations, search for places near the venue at 1820 Flushing Ave, Ridgewood, NY 11385.
Airbnb and VRBO have multiple options in Brooklyn, fewer in Queens.
For hotels, keep the following in mind: NYC has one of the best transit systems in da woild. Getting from Manhattan to Queens is no big deal. The venue is five blocks from the L line, which runs along 14th Street in Manhattan.
It's also not a problem getting to and from anywhere in Queens. Getting from Brooklyn to Queens, and back again? That's less fun. It appears that the subway was designed under the assumption that everyone would want to go from the other boroughs into Manhattan and not between each other.
You can get from anywhere to anywhere in NY, it's all a matter of your comfort level.
Taxis, Uber, and Lyft all operate within the boroughs. Renting a car is typically inadvisable as parking can be a nightmare, if not impossible.
The NYC MTA is usually the best way to go and using the subway or bus is not difficult.
1. Buy a Metro card at the nearest subway station. You also can purchase them at a local retailer or at a mobile site. Go here for more info. You can purchase a ticket by a dollar amount or for a set amount of time with unlimited rides.
2. When getting from point A to point B, use your preferred map feature on your phone. When you choose the Transit option, you will get a step-by-step that includes transfers and walking directions.
