It’s a tale as old as time: we met on a dating app during a pandemic.
After several weeks of texting, we decided to finally burst our covid bubbles and meet in-person. Our first date was a Thursday at Tres Gatos in Jamaica Plain: for Emily, it was one day after her 29th birthday; for Nick, one day after Wednesday. After initial pleasantries, small talk quickly elevated to medium talk. Topics ranged from Emily’s fixation with the occult and her on again off again relationship with coffee to Nick’s brief stint as a ghostwriter (see The College Study Guide: How to Work Less, Party More, and Get Better Grades – please purchase here). After several drinks, countless laughs, and fruitless attempts not to stare at each other, the date finished with a slow walk to Nick’s car. Time would reveal that we both wanted to end that first date with a first kiss, but our 3-ply surgical masks had other plans. So, love at first awkward masked hug marked the beginning of our beautiful relationship.
A snowstorm relocated our second date from dinner outside to mulled wine inside. Date nights became date weekends, and counting them became futile. We met each other’s family, friends, and Piglet (Emily’s family dog), and integrating our lives felt seamless. On the morning of April 9, 2022 , Nick got on one knee, and with teary eyes asked Emily to marry him. And she said yes!
Today, we live together in Cambridge, eating as many croissants as possible and constantly scrolling Petfinder for a new furry family member. We are so happy and feel very lucky to have found each other. We can’t wait to celebrate our love and future together with you.
