Our Story

The Short & Sweet Version

Like any great love story, ours began where we least expected it—at work. Emily was a waitress, and Jake, the charming food runner who quickly caught her eye. Jake was on a mission to win her over, relying on a steady stream of corny (yet strangely effective) pickup lines to get her attention. What started as playful banter soon turned into something more. At a holiday party in 2016, after a bit of liquid courage from the open bar, Emily decided to take the plunge and asked Jake for his number. From there, their connection grew. Over the next few months, they spent countless hours getting to know each other, laughing together, and realizing that they might be onto something special. Then, on July 4, 2017—with a sky full of fireworks as his backdrop—Jake asked Emily to "officially" be his girlfriend. Fast forward seven years (yes, seven!), and on October 27th, 2024 during an apple-picking trip, Jake got down on one knee and asked Emily to spend forever with him. Everything about it was perfect. And, as they say, the rest is history.

Sayville Falls Miniature Golf

Miniature golf and an outdoor beer garden, what could be better?! If you have a little extra time and are looking for something fun to do, this is a great option, and about 15 minutes from Great River!

Sayville Village

A few minutes down the road, this cute village has coffee shops, restaurants, and local stores perfect for window (or real) shopping.

Topgolf Holtsville

About 4 miles from the hotel, TopGolf is a great spot to work on your swing with interactive games, drinks &amp; food!

Brownstones Coffee

Mimosa flight, cinnamon bun pancakes, or a panini. We love this spot for breakfast or lunch!

Patchogue Village

Our home! About 15-20 minutes east, Patchogue has several bars and restaurants within walking distance. Our favorites include Del Fuego (get the brisket tacos), Blue Point Brewery, and Tap Room!

Station Yards Ronkonkoma

Just a short walk from the hotel and right next to the Ronkonkoma train station, Station Yards is the perfect hangout for drinks or a bite to eat. Fun fact: it’s also where Jake pulled off the ultimate surprise at the Great South Bay Brewery, gathering all our friends and family to celebrate after he popped the question!

We’ve secured a room block at the Courtyard by Marriott - Long Island MacArthur Airport. Please make your reservations by July 10, 2025. To book your stay, use the provided link below or mention Starkman Montgomery Wedding when making your reservation. Transportation will be provided from the hotel to the wedding venue and back. The hotel is conveniently located about 10 minutes from the wedding venue and within walking distance to breweries and restaurants.

Courtyard Long Island MacArthur Airport

JFK and LGA airports are both approximately 45 miles from Ronkonkoma. JFK offers convenient access via the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR), which brings you within walking distance of the hotel. Long Island MacArthur Airport, located just 1.2 miles from the Courtyard Marriott, is a much closer option but typically has fewer flights.
