The date was April 22nd, 2019 - the only Aggie Muster in a LONG time that hasn't been on 4/21 due to the way Easter fell that year. The "service" had just ended and there was a group of young alumni headed to the hotel bar - the Sheraton Downtown Fort Worth, and little did either of us know that we were about to meet someone that would change our life forever. At the time, Robert was the VP of Technology for the club and Emily, who had just moved to Fort Worth, came to the event with one of her friends from her sorority at A&M, all three of whom were in this group of young alumni grabbing a night cap. Emily's friend was introducing her to people around the table and introduced her to Robert, with explanation that Robert was on the board and the VP Technology. Emily quickly chimed in "Hi I'm Emily, and I'm not getting my emails." Robert was kind and walked through the ways he could help remedy the issue, as to make a good first impression - he had already been wanting to meet Emily for sometime. After the interaction not going much further than a couple of slithery DMs, fast forward 7 months and the two found themselves at another FWAMC event, this time volunteering for Habitat for Humanity. Fate would have it that they were split into nearby small groups to start their tasks for the day and after a few boards measured once and cut twice (and some pretty witty instagram captions) and Cupid started to don his bow and quiver. So much so, after a couple of beers and LSU tears (from an Alabama loss) the arrow had hit and the match lit the fuse - especially after Emily saw some instagram pictures of Robert's Weimaraner Avery - a dog breed Emily had always dreamt of owning. A few weeks later they went on their first date, following the A&M/LSU game, to a Mike Ryan concert at Billy Bobs. A few weeks after that they made things official after the Fort Worth A&M Board Christmas Party.
Three years later the anticipation of an engagement was felt by all. December was a busy month for Emily and Robert as it was their 3rd anniversary, a family cruise, and Christmas. An early anniversary dinner at Grace ended with milk and cookies and the final day at sea ended with an impromptu manicure that sent Emily into a tizzy. Christmas also came and went with the gift of a hot dog ornament.
On December 28th, Robert came home and told Emily he had made plans for them the next day involving two things she wanted to do; Lightscape at the Botanical Gardens and see the Bloxom girls. All day on Thursday, the 29th, Emily had an inkling of a feeling that today could be the day, but once they got to the Lightscape and had a festive cocktail Emily was completely distracted by Myer and the lights. Once we got up to the "Cathedral", Emily took a picture of the Bloxom family at the entrance. We all casually walked through and once we got towards the end Robert pulled Emily aside. Robert started talking about his goals for the year and that he had one more to mark off before the New Year. Emily immediately began to cry and that's when Robert got down on one knee!
Aright Pics by Abby was there to capture the moment, along with the Bloxoms, and the strangers who were enjoying their walk through the gardens. After all the tears were wiped and many congratulations, Harrison suggested we go get a celebratory drink at Hotel Dryce. To Emily's absolute shock, all their friends and family were all waiting there to congratulate them! It was the absolute best day ever!
