Downtown Des Moines has lots for you to do! From the fun bars to great restaurants and scenic places to walk, you won't be bored! Dalton and Emily enjoy going to Court Ave. bars on the weekends, playing bags at Tipsy Crow, or grabbing drinks on a patio or rooftop bar.
East Village is full of fun shops, great coffee spots and unique bars. If you decide to go out on night while in town, make sure to stop at Coa Cantina for a delicious (and strong) strawberry margarita and then make your way to Up Down for a warm slice of pizza and arcade games.
If you're looking for a great meal, visit Dalton and Emily's favorite restaurant - Lucky Horse. It's located in the Drake area and has the BEST burgers. Dalton enjoys ordering the BBQ burger with onion rings (EVERY TIME) and Emily switches between the Pickle Burger or the Honey Sriracha chicken sandwich. *Fun Fact, Dalton almost proposed to Emily here. He had the ring in his pocket the entire time but ended up getting too nervous to do it.
If you're in the mood to shop or need to get a last minute outfit/gift, Jordan Creek is the go to mall around Des Moines. You'll find lots of shops and great restaurants in the area. You can even stop at the Cheese Cake Factory for a drink and dessert and think about how Dalton proposed to Emily here. :)
If you have the kids or just want to play some fun games, Smash Park is the place to go. Not only do they have an arcade, drinks and food, but they have pickle ball courts, large connect four, foosball and more!
There are lots of breweries in the Des Moines/West Des Moines area. Some of our favorites are Lua, Big Grove and Exile.
Des Moines is home to the Iowa Cubs, a minor league baseball team. They start in March so there may be a home game during your visit to Des Moines. Friday night they usually shoot off fireworks as well.
A great place to kill some time and take the kids! Not a huge zoo but has all kinds of animals.
It should be the first weekend of the Farmer's Market this year. Walk around downtown and purchase food, flowers, drinks and more from 7 AM-12 PM.
