Adam's family moved to South Burlington, VT in 2002 and the state shaped Adam’s passions growing up. There was skiing and pond hockey in the winter and golf and hiking in the summer, which made for the quintessential New England lifestyle!
Adam first took Emma to Vermont in 2019 during their GW fall break. Once the pandemic happened, they found themselves spending weeks at a time road tripping up there from DC, with their senior dog, Tuco, in tow. Adam showed them the true beauty of the Green Mountain State and it is ultimately where he taught Emma to both golf and ski. When it came time to choose a location to get married, it was no question that it was the perfect opportunity to share that beauty with their friends and family.
The history of Hildene dates back to the turn of the 20th Century when Robert Todd Lincoln, Abraham Lincoln’s only son who survived into adulthood, built his family home on this land. The property was passed down through the Lincoln family until the end of their ancestral line, when it was gifted to the town of Manchester’s local church. From there, the Friends of Hildene nonprofit organization was founded that keeps the operations running to this day. It is now a working farm, community, and museum.
The story of Hildene spoke to Emma and Adam as Robert built this house to split his time between DC and Vermont, which the couple has been doing for the majority of their relationship as well.
The land perfectly blends together two places that have been significant in Emma and Adam’s relationship - the true beauty of Vermont and the rich history of our nation's capital. We can’t wait to share it with you all!
