<p>When Brett and Emma get married in May of 2025, they will have been dating for over 8 years. This means that their story is long and full of countless fond memories, but we will try to summarize it for you to the best of our ability! They were each other's GOOD friends in 1st grade at the Master’s Academy. Yes, we mean first grade as in elementary school (about 6 years old). Emma played football with Brett and the boys at recess throughout elementary, and Emma had a consistent crush on Brett through the years. Fast forward, Brett said to his guy friends in middle school that if he were to date ANYONE, it would always be Emma. The weeks leading up to the 8th grade dance on May 6th, 2017, Emma and Brett hung out between classes and after school until their parents picked them up every day. The interactions became more and more flirtatious. On the way to the 8th grade dance, Brett was thinking about how he was going to ask Emma to slow dance. When Brett got to the dance he went to the drink table and Emma spotted him from across the room, so she “went to get a drink” so that she could talk to him. As the night went on, Brett asked Emma to take pictures together (I know, shocking it wasn’t Emma LOL). After they took pictures, Brett asked Emma to dance the next time that a slow song came on. Emma had butterflies in her stomach and said she would love too! Emma went and told all her friends, and finally, a slow song came on, and it was no other than Big Green Tractor by Jason Aldean. During the slow dance, Brett and Emma told each other how they felt and talked the rest of the night. Later that month, Brett invited Emma to the Bud’s Annual Crawfish boil! This was the first time Brett ever brought a girl home, and the first time Emma ever tried crawfish! The summer after the dance was filled with many new memories and many car rides from Emma’s mom, Susan, who drove Emma an hour and back from Brett’s house multiple times a week so that she could hang out with Brett. Eventually, the school year started, and Brett transferred from Masters Academy to Bishop Moore for highschool. Now, not only did they live about an hour apart, but they also attended different schools and had both academic and athletic commitments. Additionally, they were only 14 years old so it’s not like they could drive to see each other when they wanted to. These factors resulted in them only seeing each other once every week or two. Throughout highschool until they could drive, Susan drove them around on dates and kept the relationship alive because she really wanted Emma to end up with a great guy like Brett! Once Emma got her license 2 years later, they were able to hang out more often and grow their relationship. Throughout highschool, they attended each other’s games and events and facetimed A LOT. When graduation came around, Brett and Emma had to pick colleges. While they loved each other and wanted to be near each other, they put their academic futures first, and ended up going to different colleges. Brett attended LSU to be closer to his extended family, and Emma went to play NCAA D2 soccer at PBA. While the hour apart in high school now seemed so minimal, for their undergrad they lived 855 miles and over 11 hours apart. They continued to date and kept the relationship alive via facetime and playing PS5 together as “date nights”. Before the start of their junior year of college, Emma spent the summer scribing at an ER, and Brett was studying for the MCAT. One weekend, Brett told Emma “why don’t we go to the condo at New Smyrna Beach just the two of us this weekend?”. Emma loved the idea because they hadn’t been in so long. What Emma did not know was that Brett had secret plans that weekend! One of Emma’s best friends, Francesca, lived near New Smyrna at the time and she and Emma were posting on Instagram as “micro-influencers” so when she asked Emma to dress up and take pictures at the beach at sunset, she was excited and didn’t think anything of it:) When Emma and Brett arrived at the beach to “take pictures with Francesca'', she found that the beach was lined with white rose petals, leading to a blanket with candles, pillows, all her favorite foods, and drinks laid out on it. On top of this, Fran’s friend was a photographer in the area who set up a surprise engagement session for them that night at sunset! Brett proposed, and the rest is history. Brett and Emma look back on all of these fond memories and thank God for blessing them with such a long and fruitful relationship. They look forward to building a Christ-Centered family of their own in the near future.&nbsp;</p>
