Emma and Matt met in Mid-May 2021 at a taco party that their good friend, Nirek Sharma was hosting. Emma and one of her closest friends, Melissa Kay, arrived and found a spot near the back. This spot happened to be next to someone Emma hadn't met before, so she introduced herself and was in for a real surprise when the man mentioned he was from Novi, Michigan. Emma was shocked, and elatedly responded that she was from the same hometown.
Little did Emma know that she was talking to her future husband, Matt. They talked for hours about the parallel lives they led when they were little. Not only did they live a mile away from each other, but Matt and his brother Andrew played Little League with Emma's brother Aaron (later discovered when Matt realized Andrew had the same All Star trophy that Emma's dad kept in his office). The duo also used to frequent all the same haunts, including the Northville Cider Mill and Guernsey's for ice cream. The sparks flew that night in May, as they laughed and shared stories and child experiences back and forth.
From there, Matt asked Emma on a "running date," a first of many. They've been chasing each other around ever since.
February 02, 2023
The engagement. Matt and Emma were getting ready to spend a weekend in one of their favorite places, York, Maine. Emma remembers talking to her mom earlier in the week and asking if she should get her nails done, and her mom said "Why would you need to do that? Actually, maybe you should." That raised suspicions but Emma didn't give it a second thought until February 2nd. Matt and Emma were wrapping up work, when Matt asked Emma if she wanted to go on a walk. It was freezing out but she couldn't pass up a sunset walk with Matt. As they made their way outside, Emma's parents (not so discreetly) put on their shoes and coats and peeked outside. This raised Emma's suspicions, but once again, she brushed it off, and continued on her walk with Matt. The pair walked to the "Wiggly Bridge," a York staple, until Emma noticed a photographer across the way. Emma jokingly asked, "Matt, are you proposing? Did you hire that photographer to capture the moment?" Matt paused, smiled, and said "No, I didn't hire a photographer, but I am proposing." He then dropped down on one knee and asked Emma to marry him. Through happy sobs, Emma asked "Really??" and exclaimed "of course!" He then slid the ring onto her finger, and they smiled and giggled as they watched Emma's parents sneaking down from their hiding place. Then, in a surprise turn of events, the photographer approached them and offered his camera's SIM card so they could keep the amazing photos and videos he took of their engagement. Sometimes the stars just align, and the rest is history :)
