Should we attend the ceremony and cruise?
While we would love for all of our friends and family to join us on a cruise vacation, we understand that this is not possible. We also do not want to exclude anyone from this important life milestone and therefore are also having a local wedding ceremony and reception. Please feel free to attend only the cruise, only the local wedding ceremony and reception, or both! We'd love as many of our friends and family to celebrate with us in any and every way they are able!
Is there a dress code for the ceremony?
While there will not be a strict dress code, we recommend daytime cocktail attire.
Will there be parking at the reception venue?
There is limited parking directly at the venue, but ample free street parking a short walk away.
Why a cruise?
We understand that the cruise is exceptionally expensive, but when considering all destination wedding options, found that a cruise is the most economical while also offering the unique opportunity to travel to multiple cities in multiple countries in a single trip. A cruise also allows family and friends of all ages and abilities to join us on a European trip. Many hotel wedding venues now have a 3-night minimum so instead of spending a long weekend in Maine consider spending a week in Europe!
What is the difference between a balcony and club balcony?
The rooms are nearly identical, however the Club Balcony features a larger shower, balcony and more sq. ft. Additionally, you will receive a bottle of sparkling wine upon arrival to your room and generally elevated service as this is considered a "suite". Both rooms can convert into a space for 3 or 4 passengers, however, do note that the fourth guest will be in a bunk over the couch, which converts into a twin sized bed, so we do not recommend two couples sharing one of these rooms.
Why not a 4- day or Caribbean cruise?
All 4 day cruises are in New England or the Caribbean and cost relatively equal to this 7 day cruise. But the primary reason is that any of these options would be during the ski season and are generally far more crowded sailings. In hopes of having more family and friends join us we chose this time of year.
Do I need a passport for the cruise?
Yes, a passport will be necessary for this trip. If you do not already have one you will need to apply for a Passport Book. This costs $165 for adults and can take 4-6 weeks to arrive after applying. More information may be found below
How will I use my phone on and off the ship?
The NCL Epic is equipped with Starlink WiFi which may be accessed via any device that is able to connect to the internet. 150 minutes comes free with any room for all passengers and unlimited plans may be purchased for around $300 depending on package type (streaming and VPN access vs non). For $9 you are able to purchase "NCL Messenger", which allows you to call and text anyone else on the ship via the app. There are some limitations, but for $9 we've found this to be exceptionally easy and helpful! On shore most cell phone plans allow you to call ahead to turn on your international data plan, which allows you to use your regular cell phone plan abroad. Generally, you will be charged $10-$12 / day of use. We find this to be most useful as apple and google maps are very handy when trying to get around!
Do I need to speak a foreign language to go to Europe?
100% no! We have been to nearly all of these cities during previous trips so not only will we be able to guide everyone, but we can also attest to not needing to speak Italian or French for these tourist destinations. Usually, restaurant servers can tell you are American and will provide a menu in English, but you can always ask if you're given a menu in another language.
I don't like the idea of a cruise, why should I come?
We understand that the idea of a cruise is not for everyone, but believe that given the itinerary and variety of room options on this ship all of our friends and family are guaranteed to have a good time. Look at the ship as being a floating hotel that you'll truly spend only breakfast and evenings on. During the day you will be enjoying a new city and at night enjoying a show, comedy, dueling pianos, the casino, or one of the many live music performances.
I don't drink, do I need to get the beverage package?
100% no! This will reduce the cost of your trip, and you can always change your mind and purchase a single drink at a time. Drinks are generally $9-$15 without the drink package.
