The only reason Kate and I do anything is because of the everlasting love and saving grace that our God has shown toward us.

God created us to have a relationship with Him. However, we constantly disobey and sin against God, severing our relationship with Him. No matter how hard we try to live according to God's commandments, we always mess up and fall short. Consequently, we are racking up a debt that we cannot pay, and the punishment for this debt is eternal separation from God in Hell.

However, our God is merciful and quick to forgive, but He also desires justice. Someone has to pay for the debt that we incurred through our sins. Thankfully, God loves us and wants to redeem the relationship that we broke, so He provided a Savior to pay the debt that we earned. Our Savior is Jesus Christ, who, through His crucifixion on the cross, took the punishment we deserved, allowing us to be forgiven by God and restoring our relationship with Him. This guarantees that we will be with God in Heaven after our life on earth.

This restored relationship is a free gift we do not have to earn through our good works. God has done all the work. All we have to do is accept the gift by trusting that Jesus alone paid the punishment for our sins.

Kate and I made this decision and became Christians while in college, shortly before we met each other. The purpose for which we live our lives has been changed forever. Moreover, this decision has eternal implications for our future, as we can look forward to the day when we can celebrate with God in Heaven.

We want our marriage to mirror God's relationship with His followers and utilize it to glorify God and share Him with others.

It took Kate and I years of hearing the gospel before we understood the weight and significance of it.
