Dating Profiles

These are Ethan and Jen's dating profiles from CatholicMatch.com, where they first met!

Ethan

Introduction

In general, I can be pretty flexible to what a situation calls for although I lean more introverted. In a relationship, I think honesty is vital. Not just honesty to each other, but to oneself; to admit the hard truths. The person whom I hope to meet is someone complementary to myself. I don't necessarily need someone with the same likes and hobbies, but someone who will push me to be better.

Faith Expression

I was raised Catholic; although I didn't start taking my faith seriously until around high school. Ever since then, it has been a constant journey with the Lord. The major takeaway I've gotten from the road so far is that persistence is vital.

Media

I mainly watch Youtube nowadays. A lot of Catholic channels like Trent Horn, Jimmy Akin, Pints with Aquinas.

I'm pretty big into movies, especially the filmmaking/cinematography side of the art.

As far as shows go, I haven't been watching anything lately, but I've seen a lot of the big shows that were on a few years ago as well as a lot of anime out there.

Music

The music I like varies widely depending on why I'm listening to music. For exercise, definitely some upbeat stuff or maybe some classical to relax. I play the guitar and have been getting into classical guitar recently with the dream of sitting out on my back deck and plucking away at the guitar at sunset.

Family / Background

I've lived around the STL region for most of my life with the exception being the almost two years I was in Japan recently studying for my Master's degree. I have a small family, just one older sister, and we are all very close. Very often we will play board games on the weekend, and I'm currently working at my dad's company in STL.

Favorite Saints / Titles

If I had to pick one I'd say St. Joseph. He has struck me as extraordinarily humble, and I've felt a particular attachment to him after doing the consecration to St. Joseph about a year ago.

Reading / Books

A mix of fiction and nonfiction. I've recently got into reading G. K. Chesterton, and I've always been a huge fan of the Lord of the Rings too.

Education

I did my undergrad at UIUC for Crop Science and then went on to do my master's at the University of Tokyo in plant biotechnology as a part of their international program in global agriculture. I was involved a bit in the Newman Center at UIUC while I was there.

Travels

I've been blessed enough to have been able to travel a lot. My family and I have been to England, Germany, and Italy among a few other countries in between in Europe. I've been living in Japan for almost 2 years and lived in Germany for about a month. I've also traveled around the US quite a bit, but I really want to see more national parks out west.

Jennifer

Introduction

I consider myself a creative, passionate, intellectual person in all things, but especially in my faith. I think the most important thing we can do as lay people is learn how to find God in everything, and to show people how to encounter Him in the ordinary.

I'm looking for someone who can be my partner so we can serve others together!

Ideal Match

As a woman, I've discovered that I want someone who is dependable, disciplined, patient, consistent, confident, and good in a crisis. Acts of service is a big love language for me, and I find it hard to accept words of affirmation without them.

But at the end of the day, I'm really looking for someone to share experiences with, and someone I can connect with on an intellectual level. Someone who can help me grow. And I would love someone I can relax and psychoanalyze movies with. Or at.

Faith Expression

Both of my parents converted to Catholicism when I was very young, and as a result I've always believed it to be the one true faith. Over the last four years, my friends at the Lindenwood Newman Center have helped me grow into my love for the faith as a young adult.

Living Preference

My parents live in El Dorado, Arkansas, so I'm already pretty far from family. I love St. Louis, and I'd like to stay here just because it's familiar and has strong Catholic roots, but I don't know where God will call me next.

Favorite Saints / Titles

My patron saint is St. Joan of Arc because she exemplifies the passion and self-sacrifice that I aspire to have in my faith. I have a special place in my heart for St. John of the Cross as well, and I've recently been reading some of St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross' essays. My go-to prayers for any problem are probably the Divine Mercy Chaplet and the Litany of Humility.

Music

I love a little bit of everything, but just like my tv shows, I like my music to be intense and beautiful. Movie soundtracks, Christian rap, alternative rock, I like anything that makes me feel things.

Reading / Books

I love fantasy and romance books! My favorite series ever is Dragon Prince by Melanie Rawn. It's the perfect balance between fantasy, romance, and politics, and it just has really clever storytelling.

Family / Background

I grew up in St. Louis, specifically out in rural New Melle. After college I lived and spent a lot of time in St. Charles, and now I live in University City.

Travels

I haven't traveled much, and I don't know much about it, but I definitely want to get to a place where I can travel more. Especially to Israel, or somewhere with beautiful mountains. Mountains are the goal.

Media

I like a lot of things, but I'm really partial to animation or fantasy, especially anime. I make a lot of connections between the shows I watch and my faith, so if it's not intense, emotional, or magical, I don't want it.

Occupation

I work as a Marketing Coordinator at the Mother of Good Counsel Home, which is a skilled nursing facility for elderly people. I love my job so much because I get to be creative and serve people in need. And my office is right next to the chapel, so that's a win.

Education

I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Graphic Design in May of 2021.
