Picture this: It's 2016, just a couple of goofballs hanging out at the Chick-fil-A Dwarf House after a CCF event. One of them is Ethan attempting the hot brown challenge (eating a CFA hot brown without using utensils or hands). The other: Caroline chuckling to herself about this brash behavior. We connected over the silliness and became acquaintances. After this, we continued to see each other at CCF which is the campus ministry we were a part of at Georgia Tech. Slowly but surely, our connection developed into a friendship. Both of us were taking classes the summer of our sophomore year, and that's when our friendship took off. We'd go on walks together around campus and share our struggles with each other by the Campanile. We'd drive to get milkshakes at Cook Out with Caroline's ME 2110 machine project squeaking in her trunk.
Then, we both started feeling a romance budding. Ethan asked Caroline out on a date and she said YES! And we proceeded to go on a date that Ethan did not outline as his date idea but to Caroline it was definitely a date, and to this date... we still debate over whether or not it really was our first date. Alas, Caroline being the travel bug that she is, went to study abroad in the Pacific for a semester. When she got back, she felt that she wasn't ready for a relationship, and we grew distant from each other after that.
The next fall, we were senior leaders together at CCF. After a retreat we led together, we shared our frustrations with one another about how our initial romance had fizzled out. We were drawn back together and started spending time together again, but we were NOT dating. Again, slowly but surely, Caroline couldn't resist Ethan's winning looks and charm. After a lovely sunset hike at Stone Mountain, Caroline asked Ethan "So do you want to date or what?"
Since that romantic statement, we've met each other's families, started our professional lives, and gotten involved in our church. We love to ride bikes to get bagels together, watch reality TV, go to concerts, experiment (sometimes unsuccessfully) with cooking different dishes. And we've gotten engaged. Ethan completely surprised Caroline by getting down on one knee as she opened the door to her house as we were on our way to our Saturday Emerald City bagel routine.
We look forward to being married, building our lives together, and celebrating it all with you. Thanks for supporting us throughout our lives before we started dating and got engaged and for supporting us while we've been in a relationship. We love you and are grateful for all the time we've shared with y'all!
