The Strong is an excellent and quite unique museum dedicated to toys and play. The lower floor caters to young children, with lots of active play areas, but the upper floor has fascinating exhibits on the history of toys and video games, an arcade, and the Video Game Hall of Fame!
Visit the house of George Eastman, the founder of Kodak, which has been preserved and transformed into a museum on the art and science of photography.
Notably home to the gravesites of Susan B. Anthony and Frederick Douglass. A beautiful place to take a stroll outside and imbibe some interesting history, architecture, and natural scenery.
Visit the home of the famous suffragist and champion of women's rights.
Visit the most powerful waterfall in North America! Niagara Falls is located north of Buffalo and is a 1.5 hour drive from Rochester. The U.S. side features a state park, pathways right up to the edge of the waterfalls, and options to view the falls up-close via ferry. The Canadian side features sweeping panoramic views and a "Las Vegas" atmosphere with casinos and restaurants. If you want to cross the border, don't forget your passports!
Located about a 1.5 hr drive south of Rochester. While calling it the "Grand Canyon of the East" may be a bit hyperbolic, this sheer gorge with three massive waterfalls is genuinely impressive and worth the drive from Rochester. The most interesting views are on the south side of the park, so we recommend using the Portageville entrance.
The garbage plate is Rochester's most iconic culinary invention. If you want to try this dubiously named dish at its source, go to Nick Tahou's. However, word on the street is that Dogtown has improved on the original and has the best garbage plate in Rochester.
