Dublin Airport - Flying from New York City/Boston to Dublin Airport is a great option for traveling to Sligo. Typically, flights to Dublin from America are more frequent with numerous flights each day and better bargains in terms of pricing with this being the main airport for Ireland. There will also be more airlines flying to Dublin including: Aer Lingus, American Airlines, United, Delta etc. The distance via driving from Dublin Airport to Sligo is about 214 kilometers/2 hr 45 min.
Shannon Airport - Flying from New York City/Boston to Shannon Airport is also a suitable option. Shannon airport is a much smaller, regional airport located very closely to Bunratty Village, Gerald's local town. Being a smaller airport in nature, flights to Shannon are offered fewer times each day (typically 3 flights a day) from both NYC/BOS and can be slightly more expensive in pricing. Not as many airlines fly to Shannon Airport with Aer Lingus, Delta, and United being the main companies. The distance via driving from Shannon Airport to Sligo is about 207 kilometers/2 hr 30 min.

While public transit does exist in Ireland we highly recommend if you do not already have access to a vehicle that car rentals be considered. Both Dublin Airport and Shannon Airport have car rental facilities present for your convenience.
Dublin Airport does have access to a train you could take directly to Collooney, County Sligo with a travel time of approximately 3 hours using express trains, but these vary by season. Your final stop is 5 min from the castle itself.
When in actual Sligo, taxis are available http://taxisligo.ie/
In terms of ride sharing apps, Ireland has FREENOW which is a taxi service app. Uber does exist but connects to a third party platform taxi service as well. Note, the frequency and easy access to cars/taxis may not be what American guests are accustomed to and we still highly recommend car rentals.
Guests not staying on premise for our wedding night will have the option to use our pre-set wedding shuttles which will have set times for coming and going to the venue for our selected recommended hotel accommodations in Sligo.

We recommend that all guests when traveling to Ireland contact their local cellphone providers to request the optional international service plans which will allow optimal utilization of cellular devices. Without this, cellphones will largely be limited to when logged onto Wi-Fi in specific locations. We also recommend downloading WhatsApp, a popular free, cross-platform messaging and calling app that allows users to send and receive messages, photos, videos, documents, and location information. This will be perfect for communicating with other wedding guests who will also be traveling to Ireland as you only need to know there cell phone numbers to reach out if both parties have the application downloaded.
