(413) 298-3870

When you dine at Once Upon a Table, you’ll not only enjoy a delicious meal prepared with ingredients at the peak of freshness, you’ll also be supporting the local farmers and small business owners we purchase from.

Once Upon a Table builds our menu based on the seasonal ingredients that are available from our local suppliers. This means the menu changes often, and we only prepare a select number of dishes each day.

We do our utmost to provide all of our guests with a meal they’ll enjoy–no matter their dietary restrictions, allergies, or preferences.

Our kitchen is capable, but small, so we set aside a minimum of 2 hours for all reservations; longer for parties of 6 or more.

We don't like to turn people away, so reservations are strongly recommended—especially in busy summer months!

Once Upon a Table located in a historic building. While we do our best to be accessible, our only restrooms are up a set of steep and winding stairs.

Tanglewood

297 West St, Lenox, MA 01240, USA
(413) 637-5180

August 2, 2024 - if there is one event we want you to attend with us, this is it!

https://vermontcountry.com/2017/07/07/the-magic-of-tanglewood-picnics/

Tanglewood is near and dear to our hearts. Jonathan's family has been going to hear the Boston Symphony Orchestra at their Summer home in the Berkshires at Tanglewood (Lenox, MA) since 1974. Check out the Tanglewood.org web site. The shed holds 5,000 seats and the great lawn can hold 15,000 people. We plan to attend the Friday evening Film Night with John Williams, which will be very popular with big crowds. We will enjoy a picnic dinner on the great lawn. Purchasing lawn tickets is $39 per person. You can rent a lawn chair for $12 or sit on the grass on blankets. Remember to bring a blanket!

4pm - For our dinner picnic, we will meet at the Big Y World Class Market - 10 Pleasant St, Lee, MA 01238. It's a gourmet supermarket with everything you can want for your dinner. Alcohol can be purchased and is allowed on the grounds. To Tanglewood, it's about 20 minutes.

5pm - Arrive at Tanglewood. They have accessibility/disability parking so bring your credentials to park close to the entrance. Purchase lawn tickets. Get settled. Explore the 500 acres, the shed, gift shop, scenery, etc. There is also a cafeteria if you prefer to just buy dinner but it can be pricey. The food is average.

6-7pm - Spread out your blankets, set up your chairs on the lawn and let's share a picnic dinner before the show!

8pm - Concert begins with the Boston Pops Orchestra conducted by John Williams. It will wrap up by 10:30pm. Traffic is no fun so we plan on hanging out for 30 minutes after the concert to avoid the traffic jams. If you prefer to leave when the concert wraps up and brave the traffic, you are welcome to.

FYI - We are in the mountains so expect night time temps to be in the low 60's. Bring a jacket, sweatshirt and long pants. Bring blankets.

We like to attend the Sunday rehearsal in the morning or the 2:30pm concert for those who are still with us in the Berkshires.

Wandering Star Craft Brewery

11 Gifford St, Pittsfield, MA 01201, USA
(413) 464-9012

Wandering Star is a 15-barrel microbrewery in Pittsfield, MA, the largest city in the beautiful Berkshires. The brewery is the joint effort of three transplanted brewers and craft beer enthusiasts who met in New York City’s thriving craft beer scene a few years back. After a long and bumpy path, they finally became a fully licensed and operational commercial craft brewery in 2011. This team is running the county’s only draft-only production brewery distributing kegs both locally and in New York City. In 2011, their first year of operation, Food & Wine magazine named their Mild at Heart beer one of the “Top five beers of 2011.” Since then, the same beer has been included in Salon.com’s “100 Beers to Try Before You Die.” Wandering Star’s Horatio and Catnip single-malt beers were chosen as Top Ten Highlights of New York Craft Beer Week in 2013. Their brews are regularly on tap at every one of Time Out New York’s Ten Best Beer Bars – proving that world-class beer can be made right here in the Berkshires. Wandering Star draft beer is distributed across the region’s better beer bars and restaurants, from the Prarie Whale and Gypsy Joynt in Great Barrington, to Thistle and Mirth and J Allen’s in Pittsfield, plus the Gala Steakhouse in Williamstown. A complete list of locations where their beer is sold can be found on their website.

Moon In The Pond Farm

816 Barnum St, Sheffield, MA 01257, USA
(413) 229-3092

Moon in the Pond is a small, educational bio-dynamic farm nestled on a quiet and picturesque dirt road in the southern Berkshire hills in Sheffield, Massachusetts. Raising food naturally and sharing the experience has been a strong and growing commitment throughout the farm’s 22-year history. Farmer Dominic Palumbo invites visitors to rediscover agricultural roots with some of their great farm meats, a tour of the farm or by participation in short or longer-term workshops, internships and programs. Moon in the Pond Farm maintains a strong focus on the elegant integration of history (raising heritage breed livestock and heirloom vegetables, using select traditional farming methods) and contemporary technology.

Charcuterie: Moon in the Pond Farm raises delicious vegetables and meat, plus many value-added products. All of their meats, processes and products are additive and chemical free. Their animals are raised on pasture and supplemented with organic feed. Personal passions of Dominic’s are northern Italian and Tuscan as well as traditional New England charcuterie. The farm regularly offers Liverwurst, Hot Dogs, Weisswurst (a traditional Bavarian sausage made from very finely minced veal and fresh pork fatback) and fresh Pork Sausages.

Visit: Visitors are always welcome at the farm, open daily seven days during daylight hours. Dom, a teacher as much as a farmer and charcutier, is happy to give tips and explain history of charcuterie for the at-home enthusiast. Email in advance to schedule a visit or to book a guided tour with Dom.

Carr's Ciderhouse

295 River Dr, Hadley, MA 01035, USA
(413) 336-7363

Carr’s Ciderhouse is a small, family-run operation that produces hand-made, barrel-aged, small-batch hard cider. The company began their orchard in North Hadley in 2000 with rare hard cider American and European apple trees planted in 2007 and 2012, finally yielding now. Their shallow sandy-loam soil, with quartzite and feldspar bedrock allows them to produce the intense-flavored apples that make their cider taste so special. Carr’s grows the cultivars Golden Russet, Gold Rush, Yarlington Mill, Kingston Black and Dabinett in their own orchard, and also supplement with apples from local growers. They make quite a few varieties of hard ciders, depending on what kind of apples they are able to source and how they decide to blend the finished fermentations. The cider-making process is very long, with each batch receiving as much care and detail as possible. They press their apples on a refurbished century-old Mount Gilead cider press when the weather starts turning cold and let the juice freeze naturally until fermentation.

Carr’s handcrafted, small batch hard ciders are available at Domaney’s in Great Barrington, Nejaime’s in Stockbridge and Lenox, and at Wild Oats Market in Williamstown. They sell at the Lenox Farmers Market on Fridays and at the Great Barrington Market on Saturdays in season, offering free samples of their products.

Haskell Free Library and Opera House

93 Caswell Ave, Derby Line, VT 05830, USA
(888) 626-2060

Jonathan is fascinated with borders like this! If you want to visit Canada without a passport, here you go! The Haskell Free Library and Opera House is a Victorian building that straddles the Canada–United States border, in Rock Island (now part of Stanstead), Quebec, and Derby Line, Vermont, respectively. The Opera House opened on June 7, 1904, having deliberately been built on the international border. It was declared a heritage building by both countries in the 1970s and 1980s.

The library has two different addresses: 93 Caswell Avenue, Derby Line, Vermont, and 1 rue Church(Church Street), Stanstead, Quebec.

The library collection and the opera stage are located in Stanstead, but the main entrance and most opera seats are located in Derby Line. Because of this, the Haskell is sometimes called "the only library in the U.S.A. with no books" and "the only opera house in the U.S.A. with no stage". There is no entrance from Canada; however, there is an emergency exit on the Canadian side of the building. All patrons and visitors must use the U.S. entrance to access the building. Patrons from Canada are permitted to enter the United States door without needing to report to customs by using a prescribed route through the sidewalk of rue Church (Church Street), provided that they return to Canada immediately upon leaving the building using the same route.
