We have enjoyed our few visits to the zoo during our time living in Omaha. As you are driving around Omaha and the Council Bluffs area keep an eye out for their desert dome.
Take some time to visit the Old Market in downtown Omaha. Filled with many shops and restaurants this one of our favorite areas to visit. While your there check out Upstream Brewing, Old Market Candy Shop, the passage way with art galleries and restaurants, Ted and Wallys Ice Cream shop,
An interactive science museum a new fun place to visit in Omaha
Take some time to walk through the 3 parks of the river front in downtown Omaha: Gene Leahy Mall, Heartland of America Park and Lewis and Clark landing. Take some time to relax in the hammocks, play bocce ball, walk across the pedestrian bridge over to Iowa (located near the Kiewit Luminarium)
Located in Omaha's old Union Station, learn about Omaha's history and explore the various exhibits that they have on display.
Kids allowed until I believe 7pm
Located in the Benson Neighborhood of Omaha, Beercade has lots of craft beers and old arcade games. Attached to Beercade is St. Andrews a whiskey bar with various whiskeys. Also located in the Benson neighborhood are a couple of our favorite places to eat: Burrito Envy, Barchen Beer Garden and Virtuso Pizzeria.

Old Market Farmers Market: right in the heart of downtown, Saturdays 8-1230pm
Located in the blackstone district Coneflower is are favorite ice cream in Omaha. While in that area check out some other fun places as well: The Blackston Meatball, Noli's Pizzeria Blackstone and Little Ricky's Roof Top bar
If your wanting to take some time to relax by the lake, Lake Manawa in Council Bluffs is a relaxing place to go for a picnic or to walk/drive around. We enjoy kayaking, fishing and swimming here.
Lake Cunningham is the closet lake to our home, which has a great 6 mile walking trail going around it and lots of rentals you can get to enjoy some time on the lake. Unfortunately cannot swim here.

If you are choosing to drive to Omaha, we would suggest taking a day or night to stop in Des Moines, about 2-2.5 hrs from Omaha. One of our favorite places there is Hessen Haus.
