In October 2020, Gracie and Dan met online while they were both at Virginia Tech. Gracie was in her senior year of college and Dan was working for the VT football team. They met up at a restaurant downtown and immediately hit it off. They left the date with plans to watch the VT football game together the following evening. From that point on Dan and Gracie were inseparable. It was clear to them after Gracie’s graduation in May, they saw no other option than to remain in the same city. They decided to move to Pittsburgh, not far from where Dan grew up. Over the next 3 years, Gracie made Pittsburgh a home, meshing easily with Dan’s large circle of friends and family. On May 24, 2024, Dan took Gracie to the Duquesne Incline overlook in their Mount Washington neighborhood, a spot that holds sentimental value to both. Before getting down on one knee, he explained how ever since Gracie agreed to move to Pittsburgh despite many unknowns, he knew he would one day ask her to be his wife.
