At the airport don't follow people who invite you to get into their taxis! You have official airport taxis which already sell their fares at the luggage claim area. The same fares can also be purchased in the selling booths after the security control in the airport hall. They all offer more or less the same prices.

As a city of 24 million inhabitants, the traffic can sometimes be a real nightmare; specially during rush hours (7am-10am, 1pm-3pm and 6pm-9pm). A lot! Take this into consideration when you have to be somewhere at a specified hour.

If you want to avoid Moctezuma's revenge, please avoid drinking tap water and food from stands in the street. They often smell and look very tasty but can be treacherous

Mexico's historic city centre (downtown) is a very crowded area; therefore, a popular place for pickpockets or minor aggressions, specially at night. Contrary to many european cities, the centre is not for walking around at night and looking for places to have dinner or drinks. For this we really recommend Polanco, Condesa and Roma, which are quite close by taxi.
