Lleyton is Josh’s ambitious younger brother, trying to beat Josh in everything he does. Despite having the physical and mental toughness to beat Josh’s marathon by almost 50 minutes, Lleyton has always been extremely carefree and extremely loyal to all those around him. Recently Josh has loved getting to see him mature in spiritual community and fighting for his convictions, and is honored for him to be the Best Brother.
Hannah Rutter - Maid of Honor
Hannah is Hailey’s sister, and while she is two years younger, she definitely acts more mature. She got Hailey hooked on Harry Styles music and is a big Swiftie as well. Hannah has a natural gift of peacemaking; being around her is a joy. She is going to be an awesome nurse when she finishes school at ASU, and Hailey can’t wait for her to move back closer to home. Hannah also has had the privilege of watching Hailey and Josh be the cringey high school couple from the start. Hannah is the only person who affectionately calls Josh “JT,” after the former Dodger player Justin Turner or singer Justin Timberlake, you choose.
Oliver Rutter -
Ollie is Hailey’s youngest sibling. Along with a shared taste in alternative rock music, Ollie has recently acquired a mullet, something Josh always wanted to do. Hailey and Ollie share the trait of strong personalities when it comes to their convictions, something Josh admires about them both. The relationship Ollie and Hailey have with their family is endearing, especially the long facetime calls and drawn out texts with their Grandpa. Catch Ollie working at the SCV Dapper Dans next time you need a car wash.
Bethany Chan -
Bethany is Josh’s only sister. Hailey is so happy that she has Bethany to balance out the testosterone of the Chan Clan with Josh and his brother. Bethany is a very talented baker and has her own cookie company. She has helped Josh be a good boyfriend and now fiancé; he asks her for advice and she knows Hailey pretty well when it comes to date ideas and style tips. She is almost done at Baylor and Hailey is excited to continue to grow their friendship as new sisters!
Brennan Book -
Brennan was Josh’s college roommate/bunkmate (yes, UCLA had bunk beds) for all four years. Even when Brennan got married, they moved into apartments right across the street for easy carpools to play tennis and watch Brennan obliterate his racket against the fence. Josh knew he found a special relationship when one of Brennan’s opening questions to him was ‘Why do you think you’ll go to Heaven’? He has been a spiritual leader for Josh in so many ways, through his ambition for loving God, philosophical and biblical wisdom, and growing into Matthew 20’s servant leadership.
Kaela Wiebers -
Kaela and Hailey met on the first day of 7th grade, when their teacher made the class do awkward handshakes for an icebreaker. From then on, they shared a lot of classes in junior high and highschool. Kaela was the one to get Hailey into running, now her favorite sport. Kaela exudes love for Jesus and is one of the kindest people you’ll meet. Hailey recently handed the baton of ‘best friend’ to Kaela’s new husband Aden, and watching them love and serve the Lord is inspiring. Kaela pushes Hailey to strive to serve God well and has been her closest confidant for years.
Eric Mak -
Eric has to be the most spontaneous person Josh has ever met. Their friendship and joint love for climbing has taken them through some crazy experiences: hiking Half-Dome (cables down), sport climbing around the base of El Capitan, and deep water soloing in the oceans of Vancouver. Along with an air of adventure, Eric brings a level of intentionality that is hard to match, always being the first to ask and care about your life - spiritually and relationally.
Cassidy Molina -
Cassidy and Hailey met in 8th grade and have been best pals ever since. They ran in high school together and now have graduated to marathon training partners! Cassidy and Hailey share a love for similar music and have gone through a lot of life’s ups and downs together. Cassidy is very loyal and silly, and that is something that Hailey values a lot. She is the most talented artist that Hailey knows, and that is why she is going on to get her master’s in Illustration at Cal State Fullerton.
Chris Anklam -
Chris and Josh have 2 fundamental characteristics in common - what constitutes humor, and the ability for everything to work out. Ask him about the moth story, and about his pinkie finger (both in the humor category). Josh truly admires Chris’ cognitive abilities, in biblical and academic studies, and the sense of kinship they developed through sharing so many of the little moments in life. You can only share wire headphones while on zoom meetings together for so long before becoming extremely close.
Ronnie Jones -
Ronnie and Hailey met in high school when Ronnie transferred from another school. They got really close really fast because Hailey adored Ronnie’s goofy side. Ronnie got Hailey addicted to coffee, as they always went to Starbucks together after practice, so much so that the baristas knew their orders. They were two peas in a pod at practice and school, always taking silly photos and going through some injuries at the same time. Even though Ronnie moved to a different state in college, they stayed in touch over text, facetime and a few visits. Ronnie loves surfing, animals and her new puppy Sunny. Hailey is excited to watch her graduate soon with a degree in Biology. She is gentle, loyal and has the biggest heart.
Drew Pfeiffer -
Drew takes home the title for the busiest yet most loyal individual on the planet, finding the time to build meaningful relationships with Josh and others despite maintaining a perfect GPA and starting med school. Josh had the privilege of rooming with Drew and leading a bible study with him freshman year, where Josh quickly learned Drew’s little intricacies (like repeating a question back to you or shaking his fork before he eats) and the way he intersected ritual with relationship in his walk with Jesus.
Mia Lawrence -
Mia and Hailey met their first year in college in the dorms during a covid year. The track team was all on the same floor. They joined the same Bible study that focused on racing for God’s glory, and grew close during this time. Hailey has learned so much about being bold for God and trusting Him wholeheartedly from Mia. Hailey is excited that she is back home in the OC where Hailey can see her more often! Fun facts: Mia is a big foodie (she has a sophisticated palate) and is a big sneakerhead. Mia is the one that introduced Hailey to granola butter, which is now one of her favorite foods.
Anthony Dugan -
Anthony and Josh met in high school when Josh kicked past him in an 800m race junior year (ok fine that actually never happened). With a shared love for fitness youtubers, climbing mechanics, VR mini golf, and sucking at rocket league, Josh and Anthony became and stayed fast friends. Anthony continues to be one of the best conversationalists Josh has ever encountered, and Josh is constantly impressed with Anthony’s drive and intentionality. He also contributed the most to Josh’s high school glow up (besides Hailey of course) when they first realized white ankle socks were not it.
Steven Richter -
Steven, embodying a unique combo of surfer/fisher and engineer, quickly became close with Josh when he transferred to UCLA junior year. Steven and Josh found space to bond through challenges of athletic achievement, from running the LA marathon together to their yoga and vitamin phases. The incredibly easygoingness of Steven stems from his surfing background and the excitement around building/designing projects from his career, but his ability to make everyone in the room feel loved is a God given gift.
