Haley & Sean

Swiper, you can swipe it.

Once upon a time in the Hoosier State, there lived a girl named Haley. She did as every good middle class girl did and went to college, settling back in her hometown of Terre Haute. Meanwhile, miles from Terre Haute there lived a boy named Sean, who following graduation moved to a city called Indianapolis. Both of them found themselves lonely and longed for someone with whom they could share their dreams, thoughts, and life experiences.

As time went on, they met people and were never able to find someone who quite fit and they became discouraged. Friends and family assured them there was someone for them, they just needed to keep looking.

In the year of our Lord 2020, they both joined a website called Bumble. Continuing their search, the despondency grew and grew until one day, Haley was at her wit’s end and declared, “if I don't meet someone tonight, I am done.” That night, she swiped on the boy, Sean, and found that he had already swiped on her! Immediately, they started conversing and found that they indeed liked each other enough to go on a date.

Traveling to Indianapolis, Haley stayed with her brother and sister-in-law. The latter of whom helped her prepare for her first meeting with Sean. As she drove to her date, the nerves and fear almost caused her to turn around and faint, but she mustered her courage and pressed on.

Sean was charming and handsome and Haley swooned and blushed as they chatted, laughed, and as F. Scott Fitzgerald says “slipped briskly into an intimacy from which they never recovered.”

Fast forward to February 2024. Haley, on her way to Indianapolis to spend the weekend with Sean, found herself in the midst of winter weather. As hunger replaced fear and while stopped on I-70, she decided to DoorDash food to Sean's apartment. After three long hours, she finally arrived. As she loaded her plate, Sean attempted to hand her their journal (letters and memories they write to each other). After contemplation, Haley finally grabbed the journal and opened it. As she began reading these heartfelt words, she reached the bottom which instructed her to turn the page. The second page read, "Will you marry me?" Looking up, Haley saw that Sean had the ring in his hand. Hugging commenced and after a while, Sean reminded Haley that she had not yet answered him. As evident by the reason for this typed story, the answer was a resounding yes.
