There are lots of little stores and places to visit in the colonies. Some of our favorites are the Amana Meat Shop and Smokehouse, the General Store, the Chocolate Haus, the Colonies Bakery and Cafe, Millstream Brau Haus, and the International Christmas Market (connected to the general store).

Although these are our favorites there are many other little shops and experiences to do including the Popcorn and Ice Cream Company, multiple wineries, the Millstream Brewing Co., and the Little Red Wagon Toy Store to name a few. All of them have a sign out front telling you what they are and most of them are on the main strip so it's easy to walk and hit multiple stores at one time!

If hiking is more your speed there is a nature trail that leads to a lookout from a small bluff overlooking the Iowa River.

Cedar Rapids is about a 15-20ish minute drive from Amana, Iowa and has lots of activities, shopping, and restaurants around the city.

Iowa City, Iowa is about 20-25ish minute drive from Amana and has the Coral Ridge Mall that has an ice rink inside as well as lots of stores. It also has many different restaurants, shops, and activities to do if you want to drive a little bit!
