“My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.”

The year 2020 has been a year of intense challenge, heartbreak, and broken expectation for many.

It's been a year of change, adaption, and new adventures.

For Lem and I not all of our broken expectations have been negative. One broken expectation turned out to be very sweet- that being us meeting in April of this year via Zoom (S/O to the pandemic). We never expected to meet our future spouses (aka one another) in this season- but here we are!

Yes, you read that right! Lem and I met just a few short (but long;) months ago. A few days after the first ever Zoom conference call with the Freedomists team, we began texting. We flirted, challenged, and opened up to one another while playing the "does he/she like me" game for a few weeks before he finally let me stop guessing. Fun fact: he told me he liked me 26 years to the day my Daddy told my Mama he liked her (the night before her high school graduation).

And that's the last I've had to wonder about what Lemuel Reber feels or thinks about me. A week and a few days later he asked me to be his girlfriend. Fun fact: he did this in LA in the midst of riots and a pandemic. He also asked me on what would have been my grandparent's 57th wedding anniversary.

We both knew from the day we began texting something was different. Although it may have taken me longer to fully admit it. ;) But we had been finding peace in surrendering our expectation and hope to our Savior and enjoying our singleness, so we were a little thrown back by it all.

A fast and furious summer led to deep and meaningful quality time where the Lord affirmed to us, we were made for one another. We were one another's answered prayers of not just one another, but the answered prayers of our parents and friends.

So on August 16th, my darling Lem asked me to be his wife.

Our 2020/2021 plans have changed quite a bit, and as things on the horizon are coming into view we are realizing they are not at all what we expected, but in the best and most exciting way.

We hope this story can be an encouragement to you. Even in the most dark, confusing and unsettling of seasons, God can truly bring beauty from the ashes. He's in the business of keeping promises, loving on His children, and being faithful.

For those of you who haven't met Lem or I, I can't wait for the opportunity to either show him off to you, or for me to get the chance to meet the people important to him.

Romans 8:24-25

24 For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?

25 But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.

As Lem and I say often, we are so glad we waited for one another. Whatever you're waiting for- a job, a healed relationship, financial relief, a child, a significant other, or even just some hope...

Keep waiting. Hold on. It's always worth it.
